Everytime you turn on the TV there are commerical that sell items for $19.95. My wife and me have been trying to figure out the history behind this price and why the price is so popular.

They say 19.95 because they want it to look cheaper than 20.00

I guess they've done their research, and they've learned that the average income earner has about $20 to spare on things they don't particularly need. The advertisement makes them want it, and see the logic in giving away that $20 for whatever it is they're selling.

Or maybe $20 is just a nice number? And people have a tendency to go towards groups of 5's, like instead of $14, it's nicer to buy something that costs $15.

It sounds cheaper than $20 and most always brag that their product is under $20
