I want a pet fish that's as simple to look after as a goldfish, but a different type. Something a bit more unusual.

Any suggestions? :)

Thanks!

Goldfish are not easy to take care of. That is a myth from people who don't keep goldfish. Goldfish are actually one of the most difficult fish to take care of properly. Anyway, a betta is the easiest fish to take care of. They don't need a lot of water, 1 gallon, but 2.5 gallons is preferable. They don't need aeration, but they do need a heater if they aren't kept in a warm area of the house. 75-86 degrees F. Their ph requirements run the full scale. And they are very beautiful, especially the males, with their bright colors and big, showy fins. Have fun!

Are you looking for something coldwater, like a goldfish, so you don't need a heater? Try a paradise gourami or a school of white cloud mountain minnows.

Are you looking for something easy, can be kept in a small tank, but which requires a heater/light? Betta, danios, smaller barbs & tetras, lots of others.

Here's a few websites with fish "profiles" where you can get photos & care info to find something you might like:

Guppies are really easy to take care of....They have a higher tolarance to new water. Try getting feeder guppies, and if they live, try getting a fancy guppy. Just make sure you have a bigger female ratio than males, because males like to multiply and female guppies WILL have babies every 28 days. The females will be under a lot of stress if there are more males than females, because there will be only one female for the other males to chase around. But ya, guppies are great. I have 5 of them, and ones prego again!

Goldfish are very high maintenence. You didn't say what size tank you have so nobody should be making suggestions at all right now.
