It is best to let the car 'warm up' for about 2 minutes before accelerating. This helps warm up the oil and distribute it through the whole engine before putting a lot of stress on the internal engine components.
At this time, your gauge will still read 'cold', but it's ok to drive.

Is it safe, yes. Is it wise, maybe not. As said, engine oil needs to be warm to lubricate the engine as well as it can. A poorly lubricated engine uses more fuel and suffers more wear. As said, sitting for minute or two with the engine running before you start off isn't a bad idea.

With modern oils once the oil warning light is off (as soon as you have pressure) it is OK to drive. Under normal conditions the best way to warm up your car is to drive it and get the oil moving.

Id give it 5 minutes. I have always been scared to drive any of my cars without warming it up. New or old. You can damage your car when there is no oil pressure.

I watch for my oil pressure to increase and then wait a few minutes to get oil to the pistons so I don't scorch them and wreck my engine.

Let it idle a minute or two and then drive away gently for the next mile or two, this is the best way to warm a car up.

Yes to your answer but please read on....
It is always better to let the engine warm to normal operating temp., so that the engine and trans get proper lubrication. Also on the newer fuel injected vehicles that are computer controlled the fuel, spark, timing, & emmissions are all controlled to be at operating temp; so that your car runs efficiently, and emmissions are at thier lowest. So I would suggest taking the extra 5 minutes to let it warm up...
