see i march a drum corps. and we started out on those damn g rotary valve sops. and we just got in some g 2-valved sops. and i was just lookin for something smartelicky to put in an e-mail, cause if u've ever played a rotary valve u know what i mean, its sucks balls!!!

you dont just hold the clarinet with your thumb, there is a hole, and a key (register key) back there. that key is probabally the most important key in playing high notes.

The wind instruments that use a thumb are; flute, trombone, recorder,clarinet, oboe, bass clarinet, double french horn and saxophones (alto, baritone, soprano etc.)

but most instruments use the thumb to hold em (obviously) but if you didn't have a thumb you wouldn't be able to play many instruments at all.

the Viola, Violin, Cello, sorta. I mean, you have to hold the bow with the thumb to play, and to hold the instrument up, but that is about it.

piano....trombone uses the thunb as part of the grip on the slide, depending on how you hold it, and you use your thumb to use an "f" attachment on a trombone as well as the triggers on a bass trombone (trombonist in case you can't tell lol)
