I am wondering about taking antidepressants during pregnancy. I am pregnant, and was on antidepressants for the past 8 years. I went off them before getting pregnant, and found myself seriously depressed again within weeks.
I can't seem to find much information online about which antidepressants are safe during pregnancy. My dr has put me back on Citalopram, and I feel better again, but am wondering about side effects, and if any other antidepressants would be safer for my baby. Thanks!

Hi, I am six months pregnant and taking the same antidepressant. I was worried about taking them when I first fell pregnant but I have a really good psych and he and my GP said it was fine. It is much better for you to be on them than to get depressed while you are pregnant because it will just stress the baby out. I have suffered depression for about 8 years too and I think I am always going to have to take antidepressants. Hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!!

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and take Lexapro (10mg a day). My doctor said this is one of the safest to take during pregnancy b/c it is in a more pure form. My father is also a pharmacist in the US, and there havn't been any negative effects on the studies done in animals.
