Plug in the numbers to make sure they work...

(x,y)=(7,22)

22=3x+1
22=3(7)+1
22=21+1
22=22

k wel...

X is 7 and y is 22

because 3 (7) is 21 +1 is y which is 22

if you idn't hae the answers
what you could do is

3X+1 is 22
then minus y from each side
3X is 22 -1
3X is 21
so X is 21 divided by 3 or seven

hope that helps
