i want someone other then the usual shel silverstein, edgar allen poe, robert frost and people like that..
i want an interesting poet where their poems are easy to interpret lol

Ella Wheeler Wilcox -- Easy to understand and the themes, meanings are easily discernible and generally relate to things we still face and deal with.

Check out this website: versedaily.com. They update it every day with a new poem and provide information about the book it came from. You can find something you like, then go buy the book.

Also, google the Academy of American Poets, you can search their database, find writers you might not have otherwise heard of.

I'd have said C.S. Lewis but he isn't American. He was born in Ireland.

One of the best and most interesting of contemporary poets is Paul Simon. Just examine the lyrics of his songs. Another one is Leonard Cohen, but he is Canadian.
