a guy asked me out . he gave me 24 hours to answer. then when i went to answer him he says he got a last min. girl friend.
then the next day my best friend says that if i go gay or bi she'll stop talking to me.
i found some ones ipod and took it to the office. then they acuse me of trying to steal it.
is it just me or are people getting meaner by the year?

its called HIGH SCHOOL!!! and it seems that high school students get more and more immature every year.. not you, but the guy that asked you out!! i mean thats just plain pathetic on his part... 24 hours to answer?? that tells me that he isnt even in it for love or anything but more for like fun ya know.. i would have said let me save you the time and told him to F*** off, you have better things to think about!! and If a "friend" tells you she wont talk to you if you are Bi or gay. well she isnt a friend.. who is she to judge someone!!! if she stops talking to you then thats her loss, and that makes her more ignorant .. let her know that!! And about the I-Pod.. If i was turning it on and they accused me of stealing.. i would have simply said.. nope im just one of the few honest people in the world turning it in!!

It is such a shame that people are so mean and rude. I see it all the time - people not saying thank you, people taking advantage etc. Just yesterday, I took a huge box of videos and computer games to a charity shop - they didn't even thank me - all they said was that they didn't normally accept boxes!!
As for the guy, it's a sad fact that there are a lot of bad men out there - as a breed though, we aren't all bad! Trust me!
Your best friend needs to take a serious reality check. If I were you I'd just tell her that it's a pity she feels that way because you've always found her rather sexy! See what she says! Just try and talk it out with her - tell her not to be so judgemental - whatever you do should be accepted or tolerated by a true best friend - irrespective of what it is!
As for the iPod thing - some people just have no sense of decency or thanks. Keep it up though - honesty is one of the best character traits anyone can possess!
There are so many bad people around, but there are also plenty of good ones - you certainly sound like the latter - so keep it up and to hell with the bad ones!

Dear, I am a high school teacher, and a father of two teenagers. I know what you are going through. The real world is not like high school. Most of us really would not like to relive those years. Yet we survived and so will you. First, thank goodness you didn't go out with that boy because you are too good for him. Second, find friends who are not closed minded bigots. Our school has a club that promotes diversity. Does yours? Finally, you did the right thing turning in the ipod. I can't imagine why anyone thinks you stole it. People are mean so you have to be careful who you surround yourself with. The guy giving you 24 hours to answer about the date is just wrong. There are only two questions to answer 1. Are you allowed to date? (Not sure of your age) and 2. Do you want to date HIM or not? If it takes more than five minutes to answer, you should just say no thanks! When the right guy asks you out, you'll know if you want to go or not!
Find out what your best friend meant by that statement and set her straight. If she won't listen, you don't need her!
As far as the iPod, you know if you tried to steal it or not, if not, stick to your word, don't worry about what other people think. You know in your heart what is the truth.

No it is not just you . People are meaner and and more rude all the time . Even cruel and dishonest . Which is a good part of why I am single . My mother taught me that there is never an excuse for rudeness . Though I fall far from reaching this lofty goal I still try to. sincerely just an Irishman

People are insensitive for many different reasons, but don't let that change who you are,keep being kind and honest. I dealt with alot of cruelty when I was young, but I didn't let people break my spirit. Some people find being mean away to deal with their own insecurities, and fears. Some of them feel that people won't like them if their not mean and rude to other people especially if their friends are like that, they think its cool.They don't know that being mean affects some people for a long time,and their self esteem is damaged.Usually when someone says something mean or rude,just reply with a kind response or even tell them that their insecurity is showing. Unfortunately people find it hard to be nice, they blame the world for things that their going through, little do they know that if they were alittle kinder there might be someone out there that can help them.Just know that they are the one's with the issues, not you. Stay happy

It does seem that people are getting meaner by the year. I work with children, and they are disrespectful to everyone, especially adults. Maybe if you ignore the meanness and start being a good example, and looking for new friends, you will be happier. Good luck!

Sometimes the good guy finishes last. If your friend is a true friend, she will accept you no matter what you choose. I think people are getting more nasty, but, at least you no what to expect. What happened to "do unto others"? Guess that was a thing of the past. Just be sweet, and honest and you will be fine.

It's just you sweetie, for you returning the IPod you did the right thing, so they were wrong for that. But, uh for the boyfriend thing, if someone asks you out and you like them why in the world would you wait to tell them that? He had the right to move on to the next girl who wasn't so indecisive, that was your fault. Your friend has the right to believe whatever she believes, to tell you that was rude but then again if you two are friends then you shouldn't have taken it so personally. People are mean period some of us are just better at hiding it.
