Hello:
I am sorry to hear that you are having a problem with mice,I have dealt with this problem in the past too,so hopefully I can help you deal with those nasty little vermin! The first thing that you need to do with your husband is to go ALL AROUND your house, and check for ANY CRACKS in your house! Mice can crawl through a crack THE SIZE OF A DIME! Make sure that you seal ALL CRACKS with caulking,or some other kind of insulation (recommended by an exterminator or hard ware store employee such as Lowe's,etc), that won't be harmful to your children or pets. Make sure that you have no standing water in your sink, dishes, etc because mice will be attracted to that. Also,I am sure that you are an excellent housekeeper, but it is always a good idea to make sure that there aren't any crumbs of food laying around, and seal all of your cereals, flour, sugar, etc in big resealable containers such as rubbermaid,so the mice can't get into your food.Mice carry diseases,so that is why it is IMPERATIVE,to get rid of them as quick as you can!
You can buy mouse traps that have a spring loaded catch to them when the mouse goes to eat the food off of the trap,it kills them within ten minutes usally. The trick is TO USE PEANUT BUTTER NOT CHEESE ON YOUR MOUSE TRAPS! Mice are attracted to the scent of peanut butter and they usually come out at night to eat,so that is the best time to set out the traps is an hour or so before you go to bed! Please get an exterminator into your house as soon as you can, because mice breed very quickly, and the last thing that you want is a house full of mice and their family. You may want to check your pipes in your basement for any leaks and get those repaired ASAP,because as I said earlier, mice are attracted to water.
The kind of mouse trap that IS THE BEST ON THE MARKET is a tan colored mouse trap and the name of it is,"V,"for Victor and it is a spring loaded mouse trap and it is THE ONLY MOUSE TRAP THAT HAS EVER WORKED FOR US,and we have used every other mouse trap out on the market! The wonderful thing about the tan colored spring loaded,"V,"mouse trap,is that Wal-Mart carries it,and when you catch a mouse, you don't have to touch the mouse to throw it away, the mouse is far enough in the trap, that you just touch the mouse trap without ever touching the mouse! Glue traps are okay, but if you REALLY WANT to get rid of your mouse problems,a spring loaded mouse trap,"V,"for Victor,is your best bet!! Trust me,this is THE ONLY mousetrap that has ever worked for us in the past, and I hope that this advice has been helpful for you!! Best of luck in getting rid of those nasty little vermin!! ;-)

Well, aside from an exterminator, I would recommend getting a ferret as a pet. Despite being allergic to cats, you may be able to handle a ferret. The ferret will of course get in tiny places and catch and kill mice, but their scent is what really keeps mice away. Where I live (North Dakota) a lot of grain elevators keep a pet ferret, the mice get one whiff of a ferret and they run like hell! Also, ferrets are generally OK with little kids (you can keep it caged) and the smell isn't that bad, just give them a bath and change their litter regularly, also watch what you feed them, and the smell will not even be noticeable (to you anyway). Just an idea I guess....

This is a fall migration-mice know when it will be getting cold and move inside dwelling as this time approches(winter) -when you find cracks or holes around the exteriour of the house -use a screw driver and jam steel wool into these cracks-mice can't chew it so they don't bother-set V traps just like the answer above

Mice enter platforms for preserve, food, and water or a mixture of the three. be sure your puppy food is in chew information sealed bins. Stuff the front factors and holes with metallic wool. verify for leaky pipes or taps and fasten them. you are able to position glue traps down in factors the position you spot a extreme concentration of droppings. position a dogs food or ferret food kibble on the middle of the capture. If the conception of a mouse dieing from dehydration and shortage of food bothers you, then set up spring loaded mouse traps baited with peanut butter. the position gloves (nitrile) and an outstanding high quality dusk masks or respirator even as doing away with the bodies and cleansing up droppings.

And ferrets are nasty!! They stink!! And they stink, and they STINK. You can let it run loose in your house, but it isn't going to go back to its litter whe it has to pee. So not only will your house stink, but you'll have ferret poop all over and not even know where it is. Glue traps are good, just keep catching them. thats what the exterminator is going to do, or poison. You need to be careful with kids and mouse poison.
