........ have to take a driving test every few years? My husband and I live with my elderly mother. I see how she drives and her friends drive. It's alarming. My mother caused an accident which totalled her car and the other driver's car, hit a car in the parking lot and backed into our garage door (she hit it so hard she crinkled the whole door). And her doctors tell her that she's fine to drive! Maybe some of these congressmen need to be the passenger while their elderly parent drives to understand the danger some of them pose.

I do think at some age elder should have an extra test measuring their response time. Age and medications affect this. There are driving programs that will evaluate an elders safety. Some families insist on this evaluation because if the elder doesn't pass the MD must notify the registry of motor vehicles. It takes the argument from the family and places it on a professional. Good luck!

Agree....However. If they should flunk! The State should have a system set up where the Senior would get a ride home or allowed a phone call to contact a family member.

I know of a situation where an 88 year old Senior flunked his test in Illinois and he was made to walk over 2 miles back to the SOS building. And couldn't drive his car home. They should have a system set up to assist those who fail. Say a van to pick them up and drive them back to the testing building as employees are not allowed to drive the vehicles.

They must also remember....that they are not only removing their driving priviledges....but also removing their dignity.
It is a difficult time for them when this happens....especially if they the only family member left. Brochures with phone numbers should be handed to them with Department of Human Services phone numbers on them in case they need assistance getting food, medical attention, etc. Something we all take for granted.....Driving a car. Think about if it was taken away from you right now and you were all alone. Life would be very difficult.

You do not need for there to be a law to prevent a close relative from driving. If she is that bad you should speak to her and if that does not work take her to her family Dr and have him talk to her.
I wonder why you are living with her.If it is because she is not capable of living alone it should be you talking to a Dr about her driving without her being present.
In the future I expect there will be a restriction on automobile insurance that will not renew w/out a copy of a current test on people after a certain age.

My mother-in-law (whom I adore) is a seriously scary driver. I hate going anywhere with her when she's driving. I 'white knuckle it' all the way. She won't ride with me 'cause I have a tiny Subaru and she has a Lincolin Contenental and it's just more comfortable for her. She's only 74 but, yes, I think she and all other seniors should take a yearly test.

it really is an exceptionally smart step taken by technique of the Parliament. The Indian society is going via a transitional section, in part conservative in part American. The teens have ventured out of Indian 'homes' for livelihood. Very commendable! they have given a large boost to the type of the rustic. yet collectively they ought to not ignore that that's because of their mum and dad purely that they are 'respiration' in this international. The efforts that the mum and dad have put in practise them and in bringing them up, ought to not be undermined by technique of the more youthful era. So, the least that the more youthful can do is to shield the old mum and dad even as they quite choose them.because even the senior electorate of India are presented with quite some centers by technique of the State. The old human beings of today are extra empowered than the previous ones' as regards actual centers and their personal pal circles. The old mum and dad also needs to shop themselves gainfully occupied, devour balanced weight-help plan, practice health routines. this may shop them mentally and bodily youthful, and shop them abreast with the replacing society, by technique of being area of the change than basically sitting and criticising the hot international and their children. this variety of body of innovations will make the more youthful flow far -far faraway from them . regulation enforcement can not help to reduce the sourness in relatives. what's significant maximum is the type of awareness in both the generations about eachother. What the old human beings choose the most from their youthful ones is love and note of, which i do not imagine is so perplexing to provide to the persons who've given you delivery.mum and dad-children-Grandchildren make a kin. Even the nuclear homes are breaking. there's a lot of unrest round. they are all into residing in a make-trust international. The human beings have tasted the 'culmination' of progression and at the instantaneous are adopting jap kin values. Please do not smash the households. each kin member ought to note of the privateness of eachother and each and each relationship desires area to be fonder of eachother.

There is a law in California. You must take another hands on driving test when you turn 77. My mother-in-law did not pass, so her license was revoked....

You know... It's better that way. Have you ever seen over-confident people driving? I really don't like them. Better to take driving tests to test them.!

I agree. If you talk to your mother's insurance carrier and let them know she is a risk, they may drop her (that's how I got my Mom off the road). She couldn't get insurance so she couldn't drive.
