We're having this (rather twisted) debate and invite you to join, with your 5 nominations. There are no limitations thoer than the movie has to be avaliable on general release and the gore has to be realistic (no zombie-slapstick or tomato ketchup explosions).

What do you think?

Not a big film fan but 1 of the worst I've seen was in Casino where they have the man's head in the vice, and also at the end of the film where they batter joe pesci's character senseless then bury him half alive. And also the scene on Hostel where that girls eye is gouged out, that is disgusting

I suspect any of the Saw films would be a good choice but I haven't seen those.
Out of the films I have seen, here's the countdown.

5. Robocop Two: A bent cop getting 'surgery' from the villains while fully conscious.

4. Kill Bill Volume Two: The Bride pulling out Elle Driver's remaining eye and then treading on it.

3. Robocop: A minor villain being doused in toxic waste

2. Seven: The Sloth Victim.

1. Saving Private Ryan: The entire opening sequence.

Sorry, but I think Dead Alive was just funny... lots of blood, but in the cheesy fake-blood sense. I was laughing so hard during the lawnmower scene. I have to agree with another person, the castration scene in Hard Candy was pretty disturbing. There's also the blood-drinking scene in Night Watch, though that entire movie is such a trip! The subway-tunnel night-vision scene in Cloverfield was pretty scary too, but I've seen that exact same thing done before (albeit, it was the London Underground and the creatures were giant spiders, but you get the picture). As for scary, I haven't really seen any movies that scared me. The airplane-gremlin episode of The Twilight Zone freaked me out like nothing else ever has, and 'Blink' from the new Doctor Who series seriously freaked me out as well. I'm more of a fan of suspense than outright horror and gore, though - I'm in forensic science, though, so gore doesn't scare me, or even bother me at all, it just all looks so fake and lame on TV or in the movies.

As a child the goriest moment that always got me was when Robert Shaw gets bit in half in Jaws but as i got older the scene gets funnier lol
The beginning of Ghost Ship is realy gory and gets you by suprise a little, not a brilliant film though.
Gory in a different way is goodfellas when they realise the rival mob man in the boot of the car is still alive and they shoot and stab him continuously. I must admit that scene stayed with me for a while - not nice.
Lake Placid - beginning when the diver gets bit in half and the sheriff pulls him onto boat with all his insides dangling out. Humour throughout that film makes me laugh everytime.
House of wax when Paris Hilton gets thing right through her head, somehow though i never have to take my eyes off the screen hehe.

Oldboy: when he removes the guys teeth with the hammer(with the fork of the hammer not the head), or when he cuts off his own tounge(sp?)

Hills have eyes: The guy blows his head off, that dude from monk burning alive, then when the hippy was in the town trying to save his baby, their's plenty of gore in this film but honestly I thought this movie sucked. Don't expect a film, Faces of Death was better scripted, which also has gore but is more of a documentary

lady vengeance" when the people wait outside a class room waiting their turn to torture the guy strapped to a chair.

You should look into japanesse/korean films they have a lot of good gore

I'd share the 5 between
1:Hostel ! ( most of the scenes in the warehouse)
2:Final Destination (1) ( the one where Seann William Scott gets his head cut off )
3:Hellraiser ( anything Pin Head does )
4:Puppet Master ( he's gruesome and those dolls )
5:Saw 1 ( Jigsaw shows NO mercy )

Final Destination 3 - when the guy is cut in half on the roller coaster

Hannibal - Mason Verger and the Sicilian pigs, and Ray Liotta being fed his own brain

Hannibal Rising - the murder of the butcher, and the murder of the restaurant owner

Final Destination 1 - Seann William Scott being beheaded

Carrie - the bloody hand coming out of the grave.

Ok, these are assumed gory scenes as I have never managed to keep my eyes open at impending goriness:

Nightmare on Elm street, when krugger kills the girl and her body flies across the room like a deflated balloon with blood splashing everywhere

In Blood Diamond when the rebels cut off the boy's hand

Torture scenes in Passion of the Christ

nail pulling scenes in Syriana (this one actually made me feel sick)

The last 2 hours of Braveheart

1.The Pelican Brief when the guy with Julia Roberts gets his head blown off and starts speaking in Arabic as he is dying.
2. Halloween--the first one--when Michael pins the guy up on the door.
3. Saving Private Ryan. That's about as gory as you can get.
4. Hannibal when he was going to cut off Clarise Starling's hand.
5. Misery: When Annie hobbled his legs.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Beginning

The scene where he has all of the skin removed from his arms. Pretty grim

Or any number of scenes from the Saw movies.

And maybe the American History X kerb scene.

And although not a horror movie or similar, there is some revolting stuff in the Dirty Sanchez movie. Seriously it's sick. Drinking the fat from one of your mates anaesthetised liposuction ops?!?! Hilarious though.
