Time moving forwards, but what about moving in the opposite direction i.e. looking in a mirror, or have I got it wrong?

According to Stephen Hawking, time has 3 discernable arrows - thermodynamic, cosmological and psychological.

There is no reason in terms of physics why they couldn't all run backwards. Lots of scientists think that at some point in the future, there'll be a "big crunch", where the universe contracts back down to a point of singularity again.

If that does happen, then it will mean that the cosmological arrow of time has reversed. The big question is whether the other 2 would as well. Could the universe exist when tomorrow comes before today?

Who knows? - not me. But it's a fascinating subject.

Time is not reversible - you can slow it down and even stop it if you travel fast enough, but if your speed exceeds C you will leave the Universe and go elsewhere. As only zero rest mass particles can achieve C and nonzero rest mass objects can never achieve C, not can leave our Universe by speed. If they ever get round to building a time machine you will only be able to go back in time as far as the point in time when it was switched on. So everything that has happened so far can not be revisited.

I noted with interest that above someone has said that there was no time before the big bang. That is now wrong - M Theory has our universe as one of many (possibly and infinite number of) Universes produced as a result of 10D 'Brane' collisions occuring in an 11D 'Bulk'. Each collision sporns another universe and theory would suggest that there are some 10 to the power 100 different types of universe (each with its own unique set of physical constants in operation eg speed of light, gravitational constant etc). Our Universe is a 4D Universe embedded on a 10D Brane. Clearly time existed before our universe did. Time might be a very special dimension indeed.

Hmmm... I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. The big bang is the a theory of the universe's creation... not about the direction of time. Also when you look into a mirror time does not move backwards. Perhaps you could explain in more detail.

LOOK WHEN THE BIG BANG EXPLODED THE FORCE WAS SO GREAT THAT THE FORCE IS STILL CAUSING OUR PLANETS TO MOVE OUTWARD WHICH JUST LEAVES A HUGE SPACE OF NOTHING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE UNIVERSE.
EVENTUALLY THE BIG BANG WILL COMPRESS ITSELF (JUST LIKE AN ATOMIC BOMB) BRINGING THE WHOLE UNIVERESE INTO THAT TINY SPACE IN THE MIDDLE AND THEN OVER TIME THE BIG BANG WILL HAPPEN AGAIN FROM HAVING SO MUCH FORCE WHICH WILL CAUSE A NEVER ENDING CHAIN REACTION GOING ON FOR TRILLIONS OF YEARS.
AND TIME CANNOT BE REVERSED NO MATTER WHAT UNLESS U CAN FIND A WORMHOLE SOMEWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING CAN REVERSE TIME

Time and space has no direction. Time is proportional to mass. The higher the mass. The greater is the contracion and compression of space around the mass. All of space and therefore time was compresed into the Primevil Atom at one time. If that makes any sense.

very good question ..never thought of that concept..Einstein's theory ...Time and mass are interlinked.. A forward motion creates a backward motion..so I suppose the possibility of time in reverse could be able to happen..but if it does it will take many years and many theories to prove it..by that time man will either have no time left to find out or they invent a time machine to prove it..

There is a theory that the universe will continue to expand untill one day, it will collapse back into itself and time will run backwards.

yeah its wierd aint it. if we could go backwards, surely we could keep on going forever. ie if we went back 999999999999999 billion trillion milleniums and stopped.....i wonder what happened the day before. working on this thought, how did we reach where we are now.
i must be dopey, coz it is blowing my mind!!!
oh yeah i think the big bang thing is a load of codswhallop.

Prior to the 'Big Bang' there was no time, so it couldn't have been moving backwards (at least, not so far as we know ☺)
