I just bought a new battery for my phone, and I have been charging it for 1-2 hours. I just went to look at the charing progress and it is still at 1 bar. Is this normal. It is a new phone and battery.

Yep, the first time your battery charges it might take longer than usual. Also, it'll depend on the quality of the battery. If you bought it cheap off a shady third-party dealer, it'll probably charge slower and last shorter than one from a quality dealer.

The initial charge for a new battery never used before is probably closer to 6-12 hours. After that every so often you will want to let the battery go completely dead so as to give it a complete full charge. This actually helps prolong the battery life. I have a razr that is going on 2 years old, one of my sons has one that is about 2.5 years old...neither have had their batteries replaced because every month or so we let the battery die totally.

Check it at about 4-6 hours and it will probably be pretty close if not fully charged.

As it is a new phone and battery they normally take longer to charge. I have a razr v3 and i think it took bout 5hrs to fully charge the first time, now it only takes about a hour and a half.

Sounds OK to me if it wasn't already charged. If it doesn't improve overnight then you have a dead battery.
