It seems mostly religious people are objecting. Personally I think science should be allowed to explore and discover if good can be achieved. How can you argue with saving lives and ending suffering?

I was not aware that stem cell research kills any fetus!! Opponents may be opposed to abortion, which doesn't begin to admit that many fetal deaths are neither deliberate or controllable. People need to keep their issues and arguments straight.
There is no opposition to organ donation from those who die at any age. I do not see the difference, especially if/when stem cells are taken from sources OTHER than aborted fetuses.
My husband has MS, and as an adult, it should be his right to accept available treatments, especially when scientists have reason to believe it may lead to a cure. Are there risks? Yes. It is a calculated gamble, which we know. Even if it does not help him, the knowledge may lead to medical answers down the road, that may help someone in the future.
It is insane that others allow their personal bias (and maybe hysteria) to get in the way of help for people with diseases.

Some voters feel these illnesses are preventable. Just like with abortion, abortion is natural we learned from science that a woman can have a natural abortion from stress and malnutrition. It's easy to be against an issue because of the common good faith in preserving life but we must recognize that death is a reality and free-will protection is the obligation of the government. The same with Stem-cell which isn't new research, the National-Union believes the research should be more directed at natural remedies to cure these diseases, http://www.voteprimous.com

In all reality, research has proven that adult stem cells are the best. The embryonic stem cell haven't been proven to do much of anything at this point; this is also true for the stem cells from cord blood. They are making improvements, but neither the ESC or the CBSC are adequate. Believe me, I would love to see cures, but nothing has been available for absolute proof from either side.

I have a friend who is working on a project about stem cell research.
The UK is becoming guilty of tail wagging the dog and any person who doesnt find radical techniques, scientific work of any significant value (or they dont understand it) therefore jump on the 'anti research' band wagon. In fact ignorance is bliss and little knowledge is dangerous so catch 22 there. There are far more issues surrounding the research subject anyway especially relating to the power of politics and control over what is judged as clinically acceptable, authorised and approved.

I'm with you on this. I don't understand what the heck the "do gooders" are thinking. My dad in law has alzheimers and if i could help cure him with stem cells I'd be the first in line producing them for him.

I agree with the research, but some may object because it could lead to people delibrately having a kid and then aborting the foetus to sell for research, just to make money, which most people will see as immoral, as that is creating life and then killing it just for money.

You're right. My grandma has Parkinson's disease, and I would love to see a cure coming from stem cell research.

i agree..anything that can help or even cure these diseases is not a bad thing...my grandfather had alzheimer's it is the most horrible disease out there...he did not recognize his wife or any of his family...it was one of the saddest times of my life...if stem cell research can save one family from experiencing this it would be worth it.
