If it keeps trampling on your garden then put up a sign saying "keep off the garden/ grass" . If this doesnt work then shot it - i think you d be well within your rights! Dont mean to offend any elephant lovers as I like elephants too!

You don't actually define the type of elephant but I would say that, if they are African Elephants, move to India and, if they are Indian Elephants, then move to Africa.
It is a simple case of gardener's logic.
BTW don't forget to send a large container ahead of your move, which you have previously filled with elephant dung. It makes an excellent mulch!

Put up a really strong fence or put your elephant in a cage...
better yet, take it back to the zoo.
If it comes back, then bring in some mice to scare it away. Don't let them out of the cages though, because they might eat your plants. Their just being there should be enough to freak out the elephant.

Stop keeping elephants in the garden, or lock it in the shed.

I've found that the "zoo doo" an elephant provides makes an excellent compost ingredient! (In Seattle they actually sell "zoo doo" from the Woodland Park Zoo each year, there's usually a waiting list to get it!)

A couple of warning shots with an elephant gun should scare the bejesus out of him for a bit. Before he buids up his confidence and comes a-sneakin back, shift all the elephant grub to a rented lockup somewhere on an industrial estate.

Keep the elephant in the basement from now on. You might want to invest in a very large pooper scooper though.
