I agree. The period after the 9/11 attacks has been pockmarked by ridiculous incidents, such as the one in which an entire concourse was closed and evacuated and an airplane was forced to fly back so that its passengers can be resecurityscreened, because a pair of scissors was found in a ladies' room. The slightest little thing will cause them to cancel flights, close concourses or even close entire airports. Witness the scare in August with the prohibition on gels and liquids in on-board bags. I don't even want to fly any more and will drive 1200 miles if necessary. Now some wag whose idea of fun is to put electronic cartoons of crazy boxy little men all over the place of Boston succeeded in bringing the city to its knees. Maybe Boston has been always like this; after all, a bunch of "Indians" dumping tea in Boston harbor started a war and helped create this great nation of ours.
But that has nothing to do with all these terrorist ridiculousnesses. People should start getting less concerned about terrorism and more concerned about real threats, such as global warming and peak oil.

I really don't think the government wants us to stay scared. Think back to 9/11 did you feel scared then? Most Americans worry because we lost our sense of security that day. I'm glad you think the light brite incident was funny. Maybe where you live people won't react when its a real bomb and you'll learn the hard way.

America is afraid of change. It comes from being dominated by conservatives who want to preserve the status-quo, do not believe in Global Warming, resist social and cultural progress, condemns radical and innovative thinking, want life to be governed by a book that is thousands of years old, and basically desire to keep everthing the way it was back 'in the good 'ol days'.

Not sure, if you note it was not the "people who started the scary story" it was the officials to started the panic, and from what I gather, Boston is considered one of the major gateways for possible terrorist activity. so maybe they are more on guard

At one time this may have been true but terrorism is more widespread and more focused now, so your info is outdated.
