A great thing to do is invest in some strength shoes. You can get them anywhere from $125 new or like $60 on ebay. I've used them during the summer and i gained 7 inches on my vertical. And they come with a training program. I would highly recommend them

You can try the strength shoes. They do work, but they are hard to wear and uncomfortable. When I was in high school I went to a University basketball camp for a week and they had us do a variety of excercises. The one that stuck out was explosion jumping. Stand on something that is about 2 feet high, jump off and when your feet hit the floor explode off it as hard as you can. Do this with you regular work out and you will note some big changes. I think my vertical increased by 6-8 inches over the summer.

I've talked to a few people about this who played in high school and in college and they say that squats are crucial to getting more inches in your verticle. However, you do get slower. If your not a player who counts on speed then try the squats. What worked for me pretty well is plyometrics. Its like jumping of boxes and all that stuff. There is research out there that those "shoes" don't really help and you're wasting money. Your better off just using just basketball shoes.

Yeah "big sexy"'s tip is really good...im 5'8" too and i can easily get my whole hand above the rim...i've always been able to jump pretty high but make sure you exercise your quads as much as your calves...everyone thinks its all calves but the quads are just as important

@the different answerer incorrect lots of folk have hops that would desire to dunk and that they are 5'5. you're able to do it to i'm afraid your vertical won't decrease it although try doing somewhat extra drills and then perhaps you may excel with your hopping means's. See you on the best.
