UCLA has a slightly better rep. They're really, really close though.

However, USC's rep varies depending on the year. When I was in high school, USC's rep wasn't that great actually. It was pretty far from UCLA and the stats you needed to get in were much, much lower. However, now, they're just about the same.

Since you plan on going to med school, the difference isn't enough to matter. I'd DEFINITELY choose UCLA over USC. The reason is cost. Med school's going to be expensive enough. No reason to burden yourself with even more debt for undergrad when you can get the cheaper in-state tuition.

A minor factor that also sways in UCLA's favor is location. Just drive up the 405 to check out UCLA, then swing over on the 10 to see USC. Huge difference btw Westwood and South Central.

I know you're concerned about how med schools look at you, but the difference btw the two academically isn't enough to make any difference whatsoever. So, things like cost and location should matter enough to sway your decision.

UCLA is ranked amongst the best universities in the world, as is USC. However, UCLA is ranked much higher.
