I'm looking for a list of states that tells which states are generally blue (liberal, Democratic) and which are generally red (conservative, Republican). I don't need conjectures, I need an actual list from a source. If you can help, thanks.

I'm doing an essay on Red and Blue states. I do not want a debate as to whether the divide exists.

Please don't keep up this media-driven nonsense. There is only the United States...with diverse populations and differing ideas. This "red and blue" stuff is a figment of CNN and the other news networks....it doesn't exist.

it is now stuck in the lexicon. what's way more beneficial interesting is a US map of county vote casting. That shows that there are fewer pink voters that you would assume. for sure electorial votes are in accordance to entire state counts, yet there are basically some blue counties in the united states.

Just look at the Bush states and the Kerry states in 2004. To update it, look at which states' governors and senators flipped parties in 2006.

That's the best anyone can do - it's what any journalist would do. You can do this.

Blue states include the west coast, michigan, hawaii and the northeast.

Red states include the entire south, alaska and those states in the north that no one really ever talks about (montana, idaho, wyoming, etc.)
