In Detroit and other cities there is high unemployment and poverty. I say that it is because of employers playing government by mandating people have certain school degrees. Our govenment does not even mandate that a person have a High Shool Degree. Why should employers Play government. People can Self-Educate and get the same or more skills as a school. The Government brought down Bill Gates for his Manopoly. To me schools is all about money. Why should it be anybody concern where a person obtain his or her skill? This looks like a Civil Rights violation that employers are doing. It will be the same as discriminating on the bases of color, sex, and religion. It does not make a differents.

I am not sure if it would be a civil rights violation. But I have noticed that NO ONE has ever asked me to produce my high school deploma as long as I say I have one (and I do). Honesty, unfortunately, has cost many people their jobs.

Any private business has the absolute right to determine what they accept as qualifications. You make it sound like civil rights has to do with "I am entitled to a job, irregardless of whether I am qualified to do the work or not". Discrimination has to do with refusing to hire a qualified person because of race, gender, religion, etc.
If any business lists that a position requires 3 yrs of proven experience to be hired... there is no discrimination at all. People who do not meet the qualifications have no business applying in the first place. Frankly, I don't think your self education covered the issue of critical thinking, or the definition of discrimination.
The government already does far more than it should, to interfere with the legal rights of persons or business. Looks like you expect that the government now take over who gets hired for a job or not.

I do not see this as a Civil Rights violation. I myself have a High School Diploma but have not finished College yet so I therefor have no degree and it has limited me in getting some jobs but I know that typically an employer requires this because they want to know that not only do you have the proper skills from learning but that you were responsible enough to actually stick to something that you chose to work for such as your degree. In essence, I see it as if I want something hard enough I will work for it or choose not to but that does not make it a "good" or "bad" thing and the employer may see it as that way too so ultimately it is up to me. They only want to know that you have the Degree and where from but anyone Professional that I have ever spoken with has always told me that they have never once been ask to actually show their Diploma.

Actually, Spanish is the most prevalent language in the world. It is a romance language like French and is practically a necessity today. Bi-lingual teachers and translators are in great demand. My first language from English was Spanish, which I picked up in Mexico. All languages are derived from Latin and Greek anyway. It is best to learn, especially in Miami, the language. It makes you more of a world citizen. Don't take the negative as "discriminatory"--it reflects your attitude to not be growth-oriented and willing to add to your repertoire. German and Russian are good languages too. If you want to be employable you have to adapt. At one time, computer skills were for the elite; now everyone must have them. Make a choice to grow or recede. As Shakespeare said, "Nothing is good nor bad, but thinking makes them so".

I don't know that you can win that fight in the US. While I don't feel you can make corporations make good decisions, I think it's pretty stupid for them to require degrees in certain area. Both Bill Gates and Michael Dell dropped out of college. It's pretty dumb that companies don't recognize that some people without college are smarter than those with college.

It's become a trend-I recently saw two jobs as receptionist that required a college degree! I have one, as it happens, but why would I be a receptionist? A good receptionist certainly doesn't need one-and how dumb can those companies be?

How is it a civil rights issue if you are not qualified for a job? You are not owed a job. If employers cannot get someone in that job with the degree they are looking for they will change their hiring requirement. Submit to the job anyway. They may like your credentials even without the degree.

where you get your skill does not matter as long as it is an accreited school that allows you to meet your employment requirments ie if the job asks for a bachelors degree u must have one although some jobs say you may have the degree or equal experince

Perhaps you are trying to make an excuse for not finishing school? Most employers want an employee who has at least finished high school, who can read and write.

The employer can require anything he wants when hiring...

You can improve your chances of employment by getting the most education you can....or.....you can flip burgers at McD's - they don't care if you are educated or not -...
