well put the dirty clothing into a laundry bag or in a basket and dust your furniture. Hang up your clean clothing or fold up your clean clothing and put it into a drawer. Strip your bed of the sheets and blankets and comforter or bed spread and you don't need to wash the blankets and comforter or bed spread but wash your sheets like once a week and you need to wash the other stuff not as often. A lot of comforters come w/plastic cases they should be placed into those and put in a linen closet during the Spring and Summer. Also vaccum the carpeting and put away any stuff that is on the floor and doesen't need to be on the floor like a book or stuffed animal and put it on a shelf.

Start by sorting and make piles of things you know dirty laundry in one pile clean laundry in another then all the dirty dishes in yet another all of the personal stuff like books electronics and notes or things like coupons in another pile then go through the piles and put the things away as you go then when the piles are gone do the other things like make the bed, vacuum the floor (if it needs it) and throw away all the garbage. Then light a candle open a good book and lay on your bed in your clean room and relax.

Get a few boxes, or even large bags:
-Put all things that are trash into one.
-Put all things that need to be washed in another.
-Put things that belong in other rooms in another.
-Put things that need to be returned (movies, library books, things you've borrowed from others) in another.
-Put things that belong in the closet in another
-Put things that you want to give away in another
By now, you should have room to walk, and a place to sit :)
-Take the trash out
-Put the closet things in the closet
-Bring the things to be washed to the laundry room (or hamper)--OR to the kitchen sink if applicable :)
-Take the things that belong in other rooms to their rooms
-Put the things that need to be returned, and the things you want to give away near your front door
More space now :)
Now fix up the bed or couch (I don't know what room this is)--and change sheets or fix cushions
Next, take some windex and a roll of paper towels, and start cleaning things such as the TV, computer, stereo, DVD player, etc.
Dry dust any books with a rag
Use furniture polish on dressers or other wooden furniture
Pick up any large clumps of hair or paper from the floor
Time for the vacuum :)
Vacuum, even if it is a wood or tile floor
If the floor is tile, etc. it's now time to mop it!
Your room should now be looking pretty good. :)
