By "TV" I mean normal channels like BBC/ITV or even Film4 since it's on Freeview and not speciality channels like Sky Movies or on demand services like Sky Box Office or Teleport (cable)

it used to be several years back in the day
but now i think its a year or two,
even less if the movie bombed in theatres.

I know alot of times when a sequal is due in theatres that they'll try to air the prequel on TV as an ad for the sequel. The longer the movie, the longer the delay, because most networks don't want to devote an entire night or even two to the film. also the TV editing takes longer too.

Depends on who owns the distribution rights. British productions such as ones made by Film 4 or the BBC tend to come on a lot quicker (about 18 months later) than Hollywood where it can take 2 to 3 years.

2 years max, first they come out on dvd then pay per view channels, then sky and finaly normal tv!
