Assuming you install all updates as soon as they are released, that you update it everyday, and you do not download any reported downloads then should be 100 % functional at stopping all virus ect.
Of course it's when you forget yo update etc that this percentage drops rapidly.
With around 2000 new viruses made a week you should always be ready.

Let me put it this way..how accurate are you at making sure it is up to date? It will do a fair job, in my opinion better than Norton, if it is up to date. On the other hand, I dont recommend McAfee as it is simply not worth the money when there are free products out there that are as good or better, such as AntiVir available at www.majorgeeks.com
Why pay money for a product when a better one is free?

Try to use AVG or Quick Heal. They help in finding worms, trojans, etc and also consume less resources.

Its not my favorite virus protection out there, It uses a lot of processor and ram, and im not sure about its database. But AVG is the best Anti-Virus software out there and its free ware.

its not very good and then it makes the pc slow. security sotware should be like low in using resource and also provide comprehensive protection like nod32 from eset.com or btdefender

not accurate download avg or antivir they are much better and your pc will be faster because they use less resources and scan faster
