I work in a convenience store and The Sun/News of the world vastly outsell every other paper on the shelf, but why I ask? What is the appeal to cheap scandal sheets that are just all out trashy? I prefer the more refined journalism of the Telegraph or Times myself.

Observe the types of people that buy these rags. They will probably go straight to the back pages. ( well, perhaps page three first). Most of the Guardian readers will have beards, and be moving very slowly ( not smiling) toward their public sector posts. Telegraph and Mail readers will probably be in a hurry to get to their posts in the private sector to earn some wealth for the nation.

I also prefer broadsheet newspapers, but The Sun can be read cover to cover in 5 minutes and does not tax your brain and is small enough to fit on the table at works breaktime.
