They think they will be given a house and money without having to work for it ... its a shame on those babies though , my friends daughter (16yrs) gave birth 2 months ago to a little boy and already she is fed up with the responsibility of caring for him so granny has him ALL the time . She has her council flat now etc and given grants to decorate it etc .. I know not all teenage girls are like this .Just saying ...

I dont treat my daughter like a "handbag" i got pregnant cause i wasnt careful w. what i was doing. But i wouldnt take it back now i hate that i had to grow up a lot faster but i wouldnt take nothing back and i didnt have her just for benefits. I know some girls out there think having a baby is so cool and great, well like i said ive had to grow up fast cause well im a mother and i have to set an example for someone now and be a parent. These 14 year olds out here dont know what they are getting their self into when they sleep with everyone without using something!

yes my sister had a baby 8mths ago. she got bored with it and now my mum is its full time carer (social services have enforced supervised contact) shes 16 and honestly a complete idiot a) for getting preg and not finishing school and b) giving it up as when shes older and she 'wants' a child (and is mature enough to handle it) social services will imediatly moniter her and put the child on a at risk register.
dont have a kid because your friends have one. wait have fun go out and do all the things your friends cant do any more, like stay out late, go to clubs, have an amazing social life that will alough you to do anything at the drop of a hat.( thats why my sister wanted to 'give her kid back' (impossable so she gave it away)
i left home at 15 although i didnt have a child my life was put on hold while i had the worry of paying bills etc, imagine what it will be like having a baby so young and paying the bills! im 22 now and way more ready to cope being a mum.
best advice i can give is finishe school, go to uni or get an apprentiship, enjoy a few years with your own money that you can be increadably selfish with ( like buying a new hand bag!!!)
i personally have done all i wanted to do ill soon have a new baby and 2 wks later ill have a new baby too!!

its not fair to tar all teen mums with the same brush, i was a teen mum , my daughter is now 10 and no worse off for me having here at a young age. it is hard when you are so young but i believe if you are old enough to become pregnant then you are old enough to look after your child, some teens do treat there children like handbags but not all of us. if your friend has this attitude than she does not deserve to have a baby but when that baby is born she will come back to earth with a bump, its hard work but worth it in the long run.

I Don't Know Why But TOO MANY CHILDREN ARE HAVING BABIES!!...Here's How I See It... If Your Too Young To Be On Your Own Not Married Or Al Least Engaged CAN"T SUPORT YOURSELF ON YOUR OWN Don't Have Sex, I Am 19, Getting Married In 3 Months And Expecting And I Live On My Own....Yes We Are Just Getting By BUT We Can Support Ourselves Without Help...
We''ll Be Ok...
BUT Being 14-17 And Having Kids Their Kids Themselves SO Many People Look Down On That... 18 and 19 Are Still Bad BUT At Least Your A Legal Adult..

I've been trying to work this out for years. One thing I have noticed is that the girls who have low self esteem and chaotic, dysfunctional family backgroundfs are more likely to have babies in their teens. Being a mother immediately takes you up the status ladder in terms of personal power and respect (thats the way they see it). If they haven't been able to develop self respect through the process of childhood, then they will seek more dramatic and immediate ways to improve their status. by the time they are 18-19, some of them in my community have 3 children to different fathers, often from casual sex. babies are cute, they generate attaention and affection and money from onlookers and family. When they are 2 or 3, they become difficult and less cut; time to revert to the baby thing again. being the mother of a timy baby brings them affection, praise, respect that they may have been missing as a child. This is a very simplistic interpretation but after many years of working with teemnagers and being a mum to my own 3, I havent come up with any other explanation.

Some teenagers always tend to push to be older than their years... they therefore think that having a baby makes them immediately more mature and grown up than their peers... I don't think the baby is a fashion accessory as such but more a way of showing that they are grown ups.
Some people are just incredibly maternal... i have a friend who always dreamed of having babies and,now at 22, that is what she has.. she loves them all to bits and is happy.
For me though I want to make sure I can give my children everything they need (financially/emotionally) when I have them and so i want to wait for a little while longer.

I am nineteen years old and have a 9 day old baby whom I love to pieces. Teens don't have sex to get pregnant intentionally. They have sex stupidly, without using contraceptives because they think it will never happen to them (I used contraception with my boyfriend throughout and just got unlucky) Teens are a lot more carefree and tend not to think practically.
However babies are hard work, (I know, myself) and what seemed like a "new handbag" at first becomes something that you fall in love with and you want to protect with all your heart. So your friends might be having babies like its the latest fashion but they will always love thier child.

im 18, but found out i was pregnant at 17, and ill be having my son in a month, and in NO WAY do i think having him is like getting a new handbag, although from some answers it seems like some teenagers treat it as such. ive helped raise my younger brothers and my cousin, all from birth, i know how hard it is, my pregnancy was accidental, but i wont do anything to take it back!

sadly some people do treat babies like that, yes its lovely to have a baby but being a parent is hard work and alot of responsibility, you cant just hand them back when your fed up. My wife is 21 and expecting our 3rd baby in under 2weeks however what works for us wont always work for everyone else. Be individual and dont just have a baby to join all your friends, stick in at school, get an education and enjoy yourself for at least 10 years before thinking of having a family. good luck
