I mean, some people are still driving them or have kept them in pristine condition with original parts. How did they know back then? Do you just look at a car and say, "Wow! This will be a classic someday. I think I'll buy one." Are there any cars like that currently? Not that I'm going to buy one...just curious.

I was 22 years old in l967 and the Mustang was new, unique and sporty. We'd just gotten over the small T-Bird that we loved so well and here came the l967 Mustang. We loved the corvettes, but they were pricey and the yellow l967 Mustang was just right for the pocketbook and to fulfill the sporty look.
It may be that I'm too old to enjoy the cars now, but I think that I have just not seen anything exciting.

I knew when it first came out that it would be a classic. I also bought a large share of Walmart and Microsoft when they first became public. That is how I can afford all my puns. I also bought a fruit company that sold computers. Apple, I think it was called. A close friend of mine bought a 67 Mustang. I always envied him for buying it. It was our first year of college. I wonder what happened to it? I doubt if he kept it. They are in great demand today, even the fixer uppers. My greatest possession is my 74 AMC pacer. It makes a great fish tank. I also have a turbo charged nitro burning Yugo funny car. Now, that is a classic. A friend of ours bought his wife a 66 mustang convertible for her 40th birthday. For many of us it is trip down memory lane and a chance to revisit our youth. Esquire magazine once came out with a list of the ten worst cars of all time. Number 1 was the Chevy Vega. You can buy one of those for a song.

I was very little when mustangs were new. My aunt & uncle had one and I loved them! I had a toy mustang I played with & I always wanted one. Some cars are just like that. It's not that they knew that they would be worth anything, it's just that they were considered hot, beautiful cars when they were new and people just wanted them. That's why everyone kept their cars back then. It wasn't for investment, like it is now.

Trust me you just know...... today i would say the new cars like the chevy HHR, Cadillac escalade, dodge viper, honda element, dodge magnum, any scion. But the camero's and mustangs are the old old classics.
But remember any performance car that looks cool will be a classic.
the cars i listed have potential but a classic is measured by age, any car 25 years plus
