I know it exists as a country, but when I look at a common map of Europe it doesn't show Georgia. Is it an official nation?

Yes, Georgia is an independent country. It's not located in Europe, but in Asia. More precisely, in Caucasus. It borders with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Turkey and some other small Caucasian countries. And with the Black see on the West. It used to be one of the republics of the former USSR.

Georgia used to be very well known country in Asian region. And it has very long history.

Georgia is in fact a real nation in Eastern Europe. I've been there on business several times. Some maps mainly show the European Union, of which Georgia is not yet a member, so that may be why it's hard to find.

Also, all these other answers saying that Georgia is in Asia are wrong! Although Georgia arguably has a sliver of its land in Asia, it is overall regarded as part of Europe. Saying otherwise would make you sound really ignorant.

You are probably looking too far west - It's more Southwest Asia than Europe.. Georgia is a former Soviet Republic of Russia. Look north of Turkey, on the east shore of the Black Sea, it's sandwiched between Turkey and Russia.

Many European maps just show the European Union, of which Georgia is not yet a member, so that may be why you don't see it. People have hard time understanding that EU and Europe are not the same thing. Britain is leaving the EU but we remain part of Europe.

they do no longer seem to be our best chum, they're opportunists. for this reason we are able to condemn the Russian attack, as we asked them to attempt to locate a diplomatic answer to quit the Ethnic genocide the Georgians are doing against the Ossetians. besides the undeniable fact that, we gained't help some opportunist government that decision themselves our allies mutually as they killed greater advantageous than 30,000 Ossetians on an Ethnic "cleansing" worse than the single the Serbians did throughout the Bosnian independence warfare. So, the Russians are the solid adult adult males this time, and we will not convince our ecu allies to help us on a brilliant scale warfare against Russia to guard a rustic which the government is killing tens of hundreds of harmless civilians basically via fact they're from a various race. would be comparable to to help Pol Pot or Adolph Hitler (or Josep Stalin, who replace into Georgian...)
