If you have been asked to marry someone and after say 2 years they really don't think it's the right time or do not want to mess up a good thing, how long can you still consider your self engaged?

You aren't really engaged, he has no real intention of marrying you or you already would be. It comes a lot down to the old saying "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free". You have to ask yourself, whats in it for him? If he is already getting all the perks of marriage without having to be married why would he want to go ahead and be married? He has you right where he wants you. Get it set in your head when you want to be married by and if he hasn't even set a date by that time get rid of him. 2 years is ridiculous and feel free to tell him so. Don't be his doormat.

In some states here in the US you are considered together like married after living with each other after a certain number of years. You will then have to get a lawyer to break up due to you both having rights to all you have accumulated together.

My uncle went through this in S.C. The engagement is off but the fight has just begun.

I think a woman should ask person giving them the ring if they have any plans to get married in the immediate future and if not she should not accept the ring unless she want a long engagement. Those are thing a couple needs to talk about.

Well there is no specific guideline on how long you can be engaged for but when someone asks you to marry them it is usually not to far in the future. it sounds like this person has cold feet or maybe there is some underline issue behind this. Have a heart to heart, speak your feelings.

There should be a marriage date.....and unless you're maybe waiting to graduate from college or going away for a job assignment or something like that 2 years is getting to be too long.

Normally a year is a good time....but if your "partner" keeps making excuses it's time to give the ring back and move on.

How long have you dated? It seems to me that your "fiance`" is too comfortable with the way things are and he doesn't want to bother with changing them...I would give him an utlimatim and say if we don't get married by this date consider our "engagement" off...Good Luck

how long do you expect to be engaged for? Usually you get engaged and start planning the wedding. I have found that men who propose and never plan a wedding is just to keep the girl without the marriage commitment

Engagements are like parties.

It's fun at the begining, but it eventually wears itself off, and people start leaving.

On long engagements, people will begin to lose interest on it.
Guys don't give a sh*t, but to a woman, it can be very annoying.

So beware of long engagements...

What's a long engagement? Two or more years...

There's no expiration date.

But make sure both of you are communicating. And after 2 years, you probably should bring it up. Not mandatory, but just my suggestion.

Man I hope not!!!!!
I think a marriage license should be like a fishing license, needs to be renewed every year....Just Kidding....
As long as two people love each other and they are both happy take you time, be happy, and live happily ever after.....
