NO but they are on the outside looking in. They are about 8 points behind for the last spot. The problem is that there are several teams in the running for the last three spots and it will take about 90 pts just to get in. The are only playing around 500 , so as of now they would come up about 6-8 pts short.

Although ten points behind, the Avalanche have 3 games at hand on the Wild. Assuming they win all 3, they are only 4 points out of the playoffs. You have veteran leadership in Sakic. I don't think the Avalanche are out, actually, I think they'll make it. Not looking good right now, losing 6-3 to Dallas....

They are 10 points behind Minnesota who right now have the last spot. That is a lot of points to be down this far into the season. There's less than what, 25 games left? That's got to be near impossible to achieve but never say never. But I don't think they'll get it done.

The key for the Avs is Marek Svatos. He is supposed to be a very good young player but he needs to start playing like it. They still got a chance.
