Science fairs are a great way to have practical examples of many lessons learned in science. For the kinetic learners of society, they love the fairs and seeing all the tangible science around. Plus, they are just plain fun!

So they can be publicly humiliated with the garbage they come up with on their own, or so they can garner unfair praise for the stuff their parents did.

That was very cynical and I apologize. I was one of the lame-project do-it-yourself kids. I know for a fact some of the doofuses I went to class with didn't do their projects themselves.

I guess it fosters creativity and outside work. I think kids should have to give a short progress report a few weeks before the fair so that they aren't tempted to just slap something together the night before. Also, if their project sucks like mine, at least all the credit won't be there at the end, when they look like fools and have crap projects that do nothing to foster scientific inquiry.

I don't think it's a bad idea, exactly...but I hated doing it back when I was in junior high.

But I could do a kick-a ss project now, lemme tell ya! Too bad it's fifteen years later.

Mainly to perform the scientific skills they have learned, and to show others how well they understand the topic that was discussed in class.Depending on the grade level they are in,science can range from the easiest, basic science lesson to the hard, confusing matters of of high grade science.

Yeah...they're fun and its a good way to get the children into expanding their knowledge without a boring lecture. I guess it wouldnt be so great if you sucked at it though.
