My wallet was stolen this morning and I called all my credit card companies and my bank to cancel the accounts. The crooks spent almost $2,000 dollars before I discovered what was going on. The bank and the credit card companies are working with me and say I will not be help responsible for the charges. While that is a relief, I want justice. I want the crooks who stole my cards to get caught and pay for their actions. Does anyone have any experience where the local police actually tried to help in matters like this. Or, are they too busy solving more serious crimes like murders, drug rings etc...? By the way I am near Tampa FL...
Thanks

Check with your credit card companies and bank on the locations where they were used. Get the contact information and then, contact the locations to find out if they have cameras and video recordings of the transactions. This is the best way to get a visual identification. In addition, you may notify them that if the person(s) come back to contact authorities immediately. The locations may be able to get the vehicle used and a license plate number. You may also be able to interview the person who assisted with the transaction to get more information to include in your report. If a website was used, be certain to include that information. Your police report will be an easier case to solve.

I've never seen the police do much about wallets. You are going to get more done through the banks and card companies.
If they know who is charging, they can prosecute, it may or may not be your choice.
Getting ID back is tougher, you need what you lost to get what you need, but if you are in good with anyone, getting a confirmation of id/ ie: you belong to that ss # for instance, the higher up it comes from the better at getting new i.d.

I dont know about the Tampa police, but I am sure they will try to retrace the steps of the people who stole yoru cards. But I don't know how much success they will have. Sometimes they will go as far as retracing security camera footage to the time that the cards were used. Again, I am not sure how eneterprising your Tampa police will be. However, if you are proactive about it with the local dept., I am sure they will be helpful!

Most places have surviellance cameras. You need to find out where the purchases were made. The cameras then would reveal the identity of the people who used your credit cards. The credit card companies can usually tell where the purchases were made. Did you ask them?
Also, what the theifs did was not only crimminal, but civil (civil meaning monetary.)
Good luck. I so hope you find justice.

When you get the bill from where ever they bought stuff from, look at the date and what store they purchased the goods, take the bill to that store and tell them your situation, and hopefully, they will have the thieves on camera buying the things listed on the receit. It happened to me, and I did exactly that, ( it took a month ), but they got their @sses BUSTED!!! Good Luck.
EXCELLENT question!!!

Obviously you should report it. Chances of getting it back aren't very big but you definitely have to report it to the police. Anything can happen.

Thiefs should have their hands removed. Then we could recognize them. And you can only guess what should be removed from rapists!
