I am going to rent Little Miss Sunshine, but I wanted to know why it was rated R. Would it be appropriate for a 12 year old to see?

It has a lot of profanity...talk of suicide...drug use...and it shows porn magazines a couple times....

I love this movie....I thought it was awesome and really funny...as far as if it's appropriate for a 12 yr old, I'm not really sure I guess it would really just depend on the 12 yr old and what there parent's think...

I'm not letting my 14 year old see this movie:

It has lots of swearing, explicit talk about sex, porno magazines etc.

But apart from that, the subject matter is just too mature for most kids - what I mean is that they probably wouldn't understand a lot of the situations. There a lot of sub-text that is implicit that you would have to have a certain level of maturity to understand. The irony, and a lot of the humour is adult. Most kids would just be bored by it and not understand it more than anything, I think.
I put it in the same league as "Sideways" and perhaps "Lost in Translation". Just movies for mature people.

"Little Miss Sunshine" is a great movie. I would probably classify it as a comical drama, as it is neither fully one nor the other. Almost everyone who has seen it loves it, and you can check the Internet Movie Database for a full synopsis, if you would like. The movie is also dedicated to a girl named Rebecca who I knew; she was killed in a car accident as a high school sophomore. That is the reason why I originally saw it.

i believe it is rated R for a reason... not PG 13... uknow what i mean?

personally i LOVE the movie, but yes, a lot of it deals w/ adult themes, family dysfunction, fighting between parents, how to discipline children, how to handle stress, etc etc..stuff that an adult (or at least high school/college aged) person would understand.. if someone is less than maybe 14 years old, i bet they would not laugh, and be confused, and bored....

why not rent it for urself to watch when ur 12 year old is asleep, and get something else for them to watch that is maybe G or PG 13 rated?

Awesome movie, but definitely not appropriate for a 12 year old. There is bad language, sexual content, homosexual characters, suicide....just too much to explain to a 12 year old. Plus, the movie's humor is just too mature and she wouldn't get it anyway. But I highly recommend you seeing it! It's brilliant!

Theres a lot of swearing by the grandpa as well as showing him snort some drugs and hes always talking about sex so, no, it would not be a good movie for a kid to watch. I would highly recommend looking for something else.

NO--It is NOT appropriate for a 12 year old. There is profanity, talk about porno and masturbation--I could go on and on.
Be responsible, and keep the kids' eyes off of this movie!

It has alot of adult content and language. I think it would depend on the kid and you. But it is a great and fun movie to watch about a really disfunctional family.
