He was a rabble rouser who caused trouble for those in charge in Athens. SInce he was a questioning philosopher and courted the young, those in power were afraid of him and put him to death.

That is about the church and its power and to make it realize the truth about the Earth being round and not flat takes a lot to persuading. The Sun does not revolve around the Earth, just the opposite but it went against religious doctrine at the time and that is what cost the world one of its greatest minds. No body wanted to administer the poison to Socrates so he did it. He was not meant for the ignorant World of his time. Today we have the same problem. We need flexible leadership in the church and government. We are losing the planet to pollution and there needs to be something to wake up the ones who control the media and money to help people see the truth. If Socrates were alive today he would probably do the same thing he did long ago. He would put the truth out there and let the people do as they may. I think he would be more adamant though.

He was put on trial basically for being arrogant and "corrupting the youth". That's literally what it says in Socrate's "Apology". He was on trial for corrupting the youth..lol, I love Socrates..waaay progressive for his time. He was an arrogant, sarcastic, smartass, but at the same time he was a moral man. So, lol.. he earned his bragging rights.
