Yes, they were dragged out of their houses, taken into the forest, shot and buried in huge pits. The Germans thought that it was too time consuming and wasteful of bullets, so they built the infamous concentration camps and special rail lines. They grabbed Jews off of the streets and from their homes, stripped them of all possessions, herded them into rail cars like cattle, brought them to the camps, herded them into gas chambers where they died painful deaths from suffocation, then shoveled the bodies into huge ovens, emptied the ashes into great big pits.
By the time it was all over, 6 million Jews were incinerated.
Apparently, your first answer shows that there are a lot of people in the world that are happy about this.
I'm not one of them.

I would suggest that you read the following books
"The Diary of Anne Frank". ( If you are from the US, I am surprised you never read it. I thought it was required reading here. ) and
"The Biography of Victor Frankl".
Go out today and rent these movies:
"Schindler's List" and "The Pianist"
Yes, people were taken from their homes. Everything they had was stripped from them, everything. They were moved into "ghettos" which is where the word originated as far as I know. The were put onto trains and shipped to prison camps. Their families were shot and killed in front of their faces and they were forced into labor camps where many were killed in gas chambers, etc.
What happened step by step is a kind of a hard question to answer here because I think it could actually fill a novel. Basically, the Jews were projected on as the reason for many problems in Germany at the time. But if you take the time to open your mind to the really beautiful books and movies that I suggested, you will have a pretty good understanding.

Right before the Jews were persecuted, Germany went through a dire depression. Hitler happened to be in power as the depression eased, so anything he said was at fault was taken as gospel. Unfortunately, he blamed it all on the Jews
They were taken out of their own houses and stripped of their businesses. The had to wear a yellow Star of David to show they were Jewish. They were corralled into trains and sent to camps where they were either shot, gassed or starved to death. Some were used for outlandish experiments. Any artwork or writings by Jewish authors or composers were destroyed
Many parents were able to get their children out of Nazi Germany. Adults ended up in the US and northern Europe. While they were here, they told Americans what was going on, but at the time it was just too mind blowing to believe. Eventually we found out exactly what was going on and invaded Europe
Maybe that Jason guy thinks he's being funny...there's nothing funny about this

You have been given great answers allow me to add that HOLLYWOOD cannont depict the Holocaust in its true form because it was worse than anything you can imagine in your worst nightmares. They went into houses and killed children infront of their parents just to see the parents beg and cry for mercy. You ask a great question how can people be so cruel? The thing that makes us different from animals is morality. This comes from belief in God. If you have no faith u are capable of anything. They obviously were indoctrinated and trained to be cruel. There were training camps for NAZI SS. They made them kill babies and do all sorts of sick things that I wont go into.

Yes, they were taken out of their own houses and businesses. Their possessions were confiscated, and they were transported into concentration camps where they were starved and worked to death. The ones too old or too young to work were gassed right away, the rest were worked until they could work no more and then gassed.
Let this be a lesson whenever we hate anyone of a different religion or color!

They were taken out of their houses, deported to gettho's first (with walls around the gettho so they couldn't get out) then they were deported to camps where eventually lots of them were killed either in the gas chambers or by bullet, starvation or other forms of violence.

Step by step? No. It was too horrific, and went on for too long. You can find all the details by googling up 'Holocaust'
