It was better than the original in many ways. The special effects kicked butt, the dinosaurs and other monsters of Skull Island were fantastic. It was great using Andy Serkis instead of the old stop motion stuff they had to rely on in the original.

It was too long though, and the set up dragged on too much. Despite how good it looks, CGI just seems to be a bit of cheating. The original reqired months for the stop motion work alone. These days, the same thing can be done in 1/3 the time.

For its time, the original "King Kong" was a masterpiece. It is a shame that the infamous spider fight was lost forever. Despite that, the movie is a classic and should be required viewing for anybody interested in special effects work. Considering the time and dedication the director and the special effects crew put into it, shows that the original "King Kong" was a labor of love, instead of a labor of loving a classic.

Peter Jackson fresh after LOTR trilogy made a dumb mistake of making a 3 hour boring movie in King Kong. It was filled with unwanted expositions and subplots such as the black captain trying to be protective over a young shiphand. Come on why make a big deal in developing minor characters and waste our time by boring us, so much so even the monkey commited suicide by jumping off the building in the end

Yes it was good effects but it was a dumb story. I always asked myself this. Where did Kong come from ?, I mean where was his parents. No natural sized ape gave birth to him so where was his mother. Apes also live in Big social familys so where was all his family and friends. ?? he didnt just appear from nowhere, he had to have a mother..Fiction or not it still was pretty lame..

I liked how they did Kong falling for the girl. It was really cute and showed a real, but strange affection.

I hated the overly long scenes on skull island. It was stupid and boring. How didn't the get crushed in dinosaur stampede? OK, fall over the cliff, then get tangled in stuff and then fall and then on, and on and on. Then giant bugs, Then giant other bugs then more giant bugs - LIKE WE GET IT -- THERE'S BIG BUGS ON THE ISLAND!

I liked it. I saw it in theaters and it seemed a little long, but I thought it was just as good as the original.
