If not, what is it considered? I sometimes call my Mother by her first name, usually in a jokingly matter. She doesn't take offense to it, but if it's considered rude or impolite, i'll stop.

It is not that it is rude or impolite, but in this society it is customary to call her "Mother," rather than use her first name which is reserved for:
1 her mother and father and the grand-parents,
her sisters and brothers, cousins ....
2 her friends
3 her husband (your father)

Children always call their parents "Mother" or "Father" or some accepted variation ... and that never changes unless ....there is a wish on the parents' part to be called by their first names. So, you find people who are sixty calling their eighty-three year old father "Father" ... After all, there is no one else in this life to call by that name and it is nice to have that as part of your life.

I feel like the name of Mom & Dad are definite signs of respect. It is a small but heartfelt endearment letting our parents know that they did for us what many others chose not to do. They gave us life - they deserve to be held a bit higher than others. To me. it's more of a title earned rather than "name".

never called Mother by her first name to her face. the only time I came close was when the song " poison Ivy " was released and then I commented my mother's name was part of a song.

the only time I ever called my parents by their first and last name other than the aforementioned instance was when I introduced them to others such as " this is my Dad, Joseph B. R------. " or this is my Mother " Ivy M. R---------. "

I think if it's in the situation of step, adopted, or foster parents, I wouldn't expect you to call them mom or dad, since they're not actually your parents. If it's as a joke, it's alright, but it seems a little bit disrespectful.

I think to call your mother by her first name 'once in awhile' as a joke is fine, nothing wrong with it. If you overdo it then it crosses the line to disrespect

if you do it in a joking manner its not rude. If I hear teenagers calling thier parents by their first name I do think its rude. Depends on the context.
