I swam with them in Discovery Cove, it was a lovely day - very organised, really quiet. Swimming in the salt water lagoons are amazing too - there are some huge rays and that touching your feet and there are baraccuda behind glass but under the water you can't see the glass so it looks like they will bite your toes. Very scary!!! It's a really personal park which is great after the hustle of all the theme parks.
Only thing is, they make it sound like your're having a one to one with the dolphins - you've got a half an hour slot which is shared with a group of about 10. It's an unforgettable experience but I think they are really misleading with the infomation they give!
If you do it have fun - if not you get extra shopping money for the malls!!!

I done this several times and also have done similar shore excursions while on a cruise. Discovery Cove (if this is what you are wanting to do) is amazing. You really get a lot for your money and it makes for a very special day and unforgetable memory.
My sister always said to consider it this way. There are a lot of things around Orlando and in Florida that you can do elsewhere, and possibly near your home for a lot less money. But, swimming with the dolphins is something that you may not get the chance to do very often if ever again. You are on vacation, and while I'm not saying to spend money like there is no tomorrow, you should have some fun and do something that sounds completely different to you and interesting.
Have a great time!

=== Swim With Dolphins in key west... A Florida vacation provides the perfect opportunity to participate in a swim with dolphins program. Swimming with dolphins in their own lagoon is a very rewarding experience, experienced only by a small number of people. The excitement of the dolphin swim provides memories that will last a lifetime. The Florida dolphin experience is not limited to just swim with dolphin programs. There are also opportunities to join 1-4 day Marine Animal workshops which offer other unique ways to enjoy a wonderful dolphin experience. == Key West International Airport has flights by American Eagle, Continental, Delta, and US Airways. The majority of visitors to Key West use the U.S. 1 Highway from Miami. Greyhound has a service from Miami to all the Keys destinations. There are no public transport services and visitors need to make use of car rentals to get around. With narrow streets, little parking and congested traffic, many vacationers opt for a bicycle or don a safety helmet and putter around on a moped. The island is small, flat and easy to negotiate.

We had a lovely day in discovery cove last October. It was quite expensive though. The dolphin swim was not all that long (approx 30 mins) but on the whole we all felt that the day was worth it.
The best bit of advice i would give to anyone traveling to Orlando is not to try and do EVERYTHING in one trip. Pick a few key things and take some down time.( a day at discovery cove is very relaxing)
If you try and do Disney,Universal, seaworld,Bush Gardens, islands of Adventure plus all the rest you will get "parked out" we made that mistake on our first trip.

I take it you mean Discovery Cove - I did this last year with my wife and son - it is a great day out - don't forget - your booking includes meals and drinks - you are also picked up and driven to the centre from SeaWorld! The money you pay also includes a seven day pass to SeaWorld - and you will need a seven day pass! The night shows 'Shamu Rocks' are brilliant and you will want to see it two or three times!
The swim with the Dolphins is only about 30 - 40 mins BUT you get to cuddle them and tickle them and speak to them and give them instructions to perform tricks!
You can aslo then swim in the lagoons around the centre - with the Rays and other fish - it is well worth the money and is unforgetable!
I would willingly pay again to go

Presume you are talking about Discovery Cove. It is expensive but it is very well organised, so you do feel pretty much like you have your own space. They do find ways of squeezing money out f you with photo and video merchandising and so on, although tickets do get you free entry to Sea World, so you need to take that into account as well.
If you're taking kids you need to weigh up the cost against whether you are going to be going there again ever, and what age they will be when you next go back. This might be the best time to do it.

Actually, it's not so bad if you head down to my hometown (Orlando) and stop by at Discovery Cove. Seaworld sponsors this amazing event and, for a medium pricetag, you cna spend a whole day swimming with dolphins, stingrays, and other such marine animals.
If you'd like to do it for free, however, I'd head down to Venice beach on the Gulf Coast. The area around there is home to hundreds of pods, and if you're daring and patient enough, you'll spot a few playing offshore. Rent a jetskii and motor on out there; they're more than friendly.
Also, there's a resident pod of dolphins in the Intercoastal; just tap on the side of your boat and they'll surface close enough to touch in hopes of you feeding them something. (Don't touch OR feed, please, though. It's not healthy for you or for them)
