Firstly your ob will be specific i'm guesing, so you will have to initiate the relevant activity to get the children to use the skills that you want to observe. Eg, painting if it is for motor skills, singing if it's language skills. Then you stand back and observ! Note down which skils are being used and how (Mary held the paintbrush in a fine pincer grip in her right hand.... etc). Try to keep tthe notes brief but informative so you have plenty to draw upon when you write the observation out in full. If you need any help email me, i spent 2 years doing those buggers so i can do 'em in my sleep!

The oldest age group is going to be most interesting. If U R observing thru a one way mirror then use narrative style report. If observing first hand in classroom then use examples of their play - interactions. U might include that in the narrative report also. Checklist & flow chart? Are those just guides U got from your instructor for how to do part of your report? Younger children are harder to observe, because they do not have language skills yet.

Try asking in an appropriate section, you will get better answers, astronomy and space is not related to child care, do you want to end up observing alien children? Have you any friends who will allow you to observe theirs? If not talk to your tutor.
