I have a 20 gallon tank with a male betta, I was thinking of making the theme black and white. I have a 20 gallon filter, air bubbler, heater (80F, 26C) two small hideouts and 3 small silkplants, plus natural colored gravel. I was thinking of putting a young striped raphael catfish(Platydoras costatus) in with him. Then also putting three young female mollies( one black and one white and the other dalmation). Would these fish get along together? Also, I feed the betta freeze dried bloodworms, so how would feeding go? Would the mollies be ok with this diet plus the normal flake food? Thanks!!!!!!!!! I would feed the catfish alagae wafers and lettuce and zuccinni and stuff.

Putting all these fish in one tank will cause an overcrowding situation. You could do the black and white theme, which, by the way, I think is very cool, with all the other fish, but, because of the overcrowding issue, get the betta a separate 2.5 gallon aquarium and set him up in there. That's really the best deal for him. Just remember the rule when choosing fish, 1 inch of fish per every 1 gallon of water, and that is taking into account the fish's full grown adult size. So, the cory can grow to 2 1/2 inches, each molly can grow to about 6 1/2 inches, so that means you could have one cory (a panda cory would be a cool black and white choice!) and three mollies, and that would be all you could put in a 20 gallon tank. Your feeding routine sounds like you've read up on what to feed, so that's good. This sounds really cool. You should post a picture when you get it set up! Oh, btw... you should use black and white gravel and red silk plants as they would look good for the white and black theme!

it depends on the personality of the fish. I have 2 bettas right now. One lives in a bowl because he tore the fins off of 3 fish in the tank on his first night. the other one has been in there atleast 6 months without a problem(the male betas were not in the tank at the same time). I suggest a male molly and 2-3 females. Yes they will breed but you will not have to worry about caring for extra fish. Bettas(and pretty much all fish including the parents) love to chase and eat fish fry(baby fish).

Peppered corys would look nice too. They are black and silver. get atleast 3 tho, they like to be together.

Your mollies will love the blood worms.

That sounds like a cool tank! You can order black or white bettas from IBC breeders. White is far easier to find and is less expensive as well. Your mix sounds really good, there shouldn't be any problems at all with those fish. Male bettas make good tank mates for other fish, just not with each other of course. Sounds like you have the feeding all worked out too. What you describe will keep them all happy.

if your betta is used to bloodworms you can probably feed everyone else flakes and the betta will ignore them. a school of zebra danios might work in your tank too. i have a sort of black an white tank going with 3/4 black 1/4 white gravel -- some little white ceramic boats that are sushi dishes and my melano betta. the plants are green but i think it works ok. it is still very black/white.

To add the mollies you will need to bring your heat down to about 75*. Mollies are very laid back fish and should get along just fine.

You want to make sure you offer the mollies tropical food daily. They will eat the blood worms as well.

With your catfish same thing offer him the algae wafers and he will also pick on the blood worms too.

military blue....or a colour particularly off black so it form of supplies the comparable 'slimming' effect yet would not look weird and wonderful like 2 diverse colours of black in many situations do while they are worn at the same time.

Yes, that will be fine. It'd be cool if you had a black or white male betta (though harder to find those colors in stores).
