1) I found out I was pregnant when I was 2 weeks along.
2) Sore breasts and missed period
3) I craved fruit...especially watermelon and strawberries
4) No special diet
5) I was planning on trying to go natural unless I felt that I couldn't handle the pain. I ended up being induced...the Dr. broke my water, gave me pitocin and I did get the epidural.
6) Yes...because I was open to making changes if I felt it would be better for me. I also knew it was OK to change my mind to enjoy my son's birth.
7) I was induced
8) I was induced in the hospital...my Dr. broke my water at 6am and started pitocin around 11am. I had my son at 3:36pm after pushing for 1 1/2 hours. I did have some complications and that is why I took the epidural...unfortunately for me the pains I had were NOT from contractions and the epidural didn't take my pain away. As it turns out I had a blood clot the size of a cantelopue in my uterus and it was pressing on some nerves sending a horrible pain into my left hip and down my leg. The epidural did take away the discomfort of the contractions and the actual birth process. I had 4x the amount of amniotic fluid as normal and my son kept floating up after I would push...so it took a while...an hour and a half. My Dr. told me that if I didn't have all of the extra fluid my son would have been born in 2 pushes. Labor and delivery isn't as horrible as people make it out to be...to tell you the truth I would rather go through labor and delivery than have yeast infection any day!
9) Nothing
10) I loved being able to feel my son move. I had a wonderful pregnancy...I loved every minute of it and wish I could be pregnant forever.

Good luck with your assignment!

Sure...I have two children, so I'll go ahead and reference my pregancy with my first child for this:

1. When did you first realize you were pregnant?
I was helping out with a youth camp when I first started getting morning sickness. I suspected I might be pregnant but wasn't sure if maybe it was just bad camp food! I took a pregnancy test when I got home, and sure enough, we were having a baby!

2. What were some of the symptoms you experienced? The morning sickness, and I felt bloated in the beggining.

3. Did you have any food cravings or aversions?
YES--craved peaches, and at one point, ice (that was because I was anemic). Had aversions to just about everything! Just about the only thing I could stomach the first trimester was fruit, oatmeal, and chicken salad sandwhiches. Other than the chicken salad sandwhiches, all meat made me quesy. Just the smell of fish or Chinese food would make me want to hurl.

4. Did you doctor require you to follow a special diet? No...but he did give advice on things to avoid and how to get enough nutrition.

5. Before you were in labor, did you plan to have the baby naturally or with medical aids (like an epidural or pitocin)?

Epidural!!! (God Bless the anistesiologist!)

6. Were you able to follow your birth plan as you'd hoped?
Yes.

7. How did you know you were in labor?
Well, I counted the time between contractions--when it got to under 5 minutes I called the hospital--but it still wasn't hurting, and I told them that. They asked if it was my first child--and then told me to wait until it started to hurt. An hour later they started to be painful and we went to the hospital.

8. Tell me about your labor and delivery.

After we got to the hospital they hooked me up to some monitors. The contractions just felt like really bad cramps...although they got worse as we went along. Still, I was calm, and excited...it was the middle of the night so it was very quiet. After the contractions got to a certain point I had an epidural--which caused a piercing pain worse than anything else I've felt in my life (but that's not always the case--with my second child the epidural was painless--but it also didn't work because I got it too late). But it was over quick and after that I didn't feel any of the contractions. They said I would soon feel the urge to push, and sure enough I did. I pushed with the contractions for 3 hours, they had to do an epistiotomy (ug...I'm sure that's mispelled) and use suctions to help my son out. He was 10 lbs, 3 ounces, and beautiful ! When they handed him to me I couldn't take my eyes off of him.

9. What would you do differently?
Nothing. It was perfect.

10. Overall, what did you like most about being pregnant? Least?
I liked feeling my baby kick the best. It was such an awesome feeling. Least--the morning sickness, definatley (which by the way, can hit anytime, not just morning).

3. Did you have any food cravings or aversions? I craved Lemon a lot. and couldn't stand the smell of Taco Bell or green beans, still to this day thats true.

4. Did you doctor require you to follow a special diet?
Yes b/c f my hyperemessis I had to had tube feedings b/c I cou'dn't keep anything down not even sips of water.

5. Before you were in labor, did you plan to have the baby naturally or with medical aids (like an epidural or pitocin)? I chose to not have any sort of medication with either of my children

6. Were you able to follow your birth plan as you'd hoped? Yes everthing went as planned.

7. How did you know you were in labor? Yo just know.

8. Tell me about your labor and delivery. my 1st I was only in labor for 2 hours and we almost didn't make it to the hospital. My 2nd I was in labor but it would stop when I would sit down so they induced me and from there it only took 1 hour until he was born.

9. What would you do differently?I would have went home and wated for labor to pick up with my second.

10. Overall, what did you like most about being pregnant? Least? Everything but the sick part. Least the sickness was awful I had to quit my job and was pretty usless almost all the time.

1) Within a few days. My body temp went way up and stayed up. I wasn't charting but I know what my normal body tem was.

2) See above.

3) When I was about 2 months pregnant my dog got sprayed by a skunk, then the next day got into an accident and had to have emergency surgery with a drainage tube put in. So I had a skunk smelling dog with a drainage tube I had to clean 4 times a day. I got really BAD "all-day" sickness. ALL I could eat most of the time was fruit. Every 3 hours or so I would have a piece of PLAIN fruit like apples, pears, bananas, then if I felt ok I would have some protein and maybe some carbs. I had a sever aversion to meat and the smell of tap water. I couldn't drink tap water at all my whole pregnancy, and even the smell of the fresh water in the toilet would turn my stomach. So if someone had just flushed I had to wait 10-15 minutes before going into the bathroom.

4. I was my doctor, and I required me to have 100g of protein per day as per the Brewer Diet. www.blueribbonbaby.org I believe that is why my son was so healthy even though I lost a lot of weight.

5. I was planning a unassisted homebirth. I had a backup midwife just in case

6. No after three days of labour, and because my midwife had had emergency surgery and was on bed rest and couldn't come out. My husband and midwife begged me to go to the hospital. This was a mistake. The bigger mistakes were: Not leaving immediatly after they did a stress test and said the baby was fine and Not signing my baby out AMA immediately and believing the crap they fed me even though I knew it was wrong. Once I was there the threats kept piling up and I was in a locked ward so it was harder and harder to leave or think right. Many things went wrong including giving my son too much of the wrong treatment. I WILL HAVE TO BE NEAR DEATH to step foot in a hospital again.

7. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I woke up and I just knew it was starting. I didn't listen and didn't cancel having family over. That was bad.

8. Umm see above but I want to add that it wasn't painful even though I couldn't sit during contractions. They were not painful, unless I tried to do anything but stand. Even then it was more of a panicky "this is bad feeling" then pain. My first thought after giving birth was "I want to do that again" the emotional high is amazing.

9. Pay more attention to the position of my baby. Go to a chiropractor. Paid more attention to how to get a baby to change positions during labour and done those things rather than taking the easy route of whatever felt best.

10. Pregnancy was neither here nor there for me. I didn't love it nor hate it in spite of the sickness, really I felt pretty good. What I hated least was being mollycoddled by people which is why I am glad I didn't show until very late in my pregnancy.

3. well i always have some kind of cravings nothing in particular though, the normal ice cream sweet stuff, sometime fried stuff lol
4. not really, and i tried to follow my own healthy "diet" lots of fruits and vegetables, and lots of milk and juice adn water. but i didnt always go by it.
5. i planned naturally.
6. i followed it okay the first time around, it was natural only extra was pitocin that my doctor wanted to get my contractions going along faster.
7. the doctor told me on my weekly appointment (said i was 3 centimeters dilated)
8. it was a lot easier than i expected. no complications. the actual birth wasnt too bad. the contractions did hurt, but not for me to scream or cry. the worse part was the first time i had to go pee afterward (burned like hell of course)
9. nothing really i guess
10. i liked the fact that i was carrying a life inside of me that was to become a child that i love with all my heart. the least thing was that fact i never got back into my prepregnancy size (sucks alot) and now im pregnant again

I've had two pregnancies, so I'll answer for each.

When I was pregnant with my daughter:
1) I took a test when I was about four weeks pregnant. I didn't really suspect much that I was pregnant; I have just always been excited and anxious about getting pregnant, so I took a test every now and then. I was actually pretty surprised to get the result!
2) tender breasts, morning sickness, later on carpal tunnel and congestion
3) especially near the end, I craved mini powdered donuts. And I filled that craving every chance I got; I kept a bag at my desk at work! (but still lost the weight afterwards, thanks to breastfeeding)
4) no -- or if she did, I didn't know it... she had a pretty thick accent, come to think of it (which is why I switched doctors for the next baby)
5) with as much pain killers as necessary, as long as they did not impair my ability to be with my child or breastfeed afterwards (I'm a big baby when it comes to pain)
6) yes
7) my water broke -- at midnight on my birthday (8 days early)
8) I pushed for 17 hours before finally practically begging for a c-section (the doctor recommended it after a while anyway because the baby wasn't progressing at all). I had an epidural and was awake for the delivery, then breastfed my baby as planned less than an hour after giving birth.
9) see second pregnancy details
10) feeling my baby move inside me was the best, not being able to breathe through my nose for the last four months was the worst

When I was pregnant with my son:
1) 22 days after conception -- it was a total shock. My daughter had been on a nursing strike and wouldn't breastfeed, and I couldn't figure out why not. I tried everything. Then, as I was cleaning out the bathroom I found the pregnancy test that had come in the pack with the one I took to find out I was pregnant with my daughter. It was about to expire, so instead of just throwing it away I took it. I had not even suspected being pregnant, so it was a complete shock when it came back positive! Turns out my daughter had stopped nursing exactly seven days after my son was conceived.
2) same as before, nausea and tenderness, later on carpal tunnel. Strangely enough, the congestion this time started before I even knew I was pregnant and lasted all the way through until after giving birth.
3) this time I ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on toast. For a long time, every day I ate a Little Debbie Cosmic Brownie with a big glass of whole milk.
4) no
5) planned c-section, due to previous birth
6) not entirely -- see #8
7) this time I wasn't sure for a long time.. when my water broke it was more of a trickle. Enough to know it was different from just a discharge, but not enough to be sure that it was my water breaking. I don't remember contractions at all
8) the c-section was planned for 8 days before my son's due date. I went into labor 11 days before the planned c-section (the day before my mom had planned to drive to wisconsin from New York to be there for the birth). Again, I had an epidural and was awake, breastfeeding less than an hour after giving birth.
9) my kids are exactly 19 months apart. Next time I'd wait at LEAST until the youngest is potty trained (for a number of reasons, not just the diapers!)
10) same as above

HTH.. seems like an odd assignment for a 13 YO but whatever, I don't mind sharing :-D
