Dear All

My son has been on my laptop today, and the 'sticky keys' command box came on, he didn't know what to do, but it seems we cancelled the option. Now, however, when I need to type a number, the character is only the one above the number. Pressing shift concurrantly doesn't seem to work, and i still can't seem to type a number using the keys!

Can someone help and point me in the right direction as to settings or commands, please?

Many thanks in advance

You need to press shift 5 times, then a window will pop up and you can turn sticky keys on or off.

I'm not sure if this will help, but sometimes a shift key gets stuck. Try pressing each of the shift, ctrl, alt, and caps lock keys once (both left and right sides). Also, try pressing the num lock key (shift + ScrLk, at the top of the keyboard on my laptop).

Make sure the caps lock and num lock LEDs are off.

You should also be able to shut down and power on again (do not use restart). That might work, too.

Good luck!

PS. I wouldn't try the dishwasher thing... :) I assume the sticky keys is the operating system function that comes on when you press the shift key 5 times in a row, and I assume you were able to turn that back off again (just press it 5 times in a row, again).

I don't really know how to help you, however, a thought crosses my mind - perhaps if you put the laptop in the dishwasher it will clean off the sticky keys and restore parental control. It will also allow you to spend more time with your son, which is important.
