That type of fish is too large to kept in a 55.

Try some some smaller native species of fish like darters or something

I have kept and bred the largemouth bass and I can tll you from experience one wouldn't last long at all in a 55 gallon. Even a small bass of 6-8" would be too cramped. Thank smaller for a native fish.

First off find out if it's legal in your state to keep game fishes in a home aquarium. The tank should be in a cool area or have a small chiller. The water requirements are pretty much in the middle, neutral pH and medium hardness. Of course the fish will out grow a 55 gallon tank, but you can simply release one and replace it with another. I have an acquaintance that keeps a large tank in his taxidermy shop and just rotates locally caught fish through it every three months or so. It's always interesting to stop by and check out what's in there now. Good luck.-------PeeTee-------- Mainly the tank should stay under 68 degrees F.
