I'm 21 and have been offered an apprenticeship in I.T on low wage etc but if i do it i'm guessing it will be easier to get a job in I.T and maybe shape a carrer around that even if it doesnt really interest me that much. or should I go on a learning trip like do an access course then go to uni and get a degree in something that interests me when I figure that out? but keeping in mind I am financially poor and uni would be very difficult and even if i got a degree getting a job in that certain field say animals or something that i love would probably be impossible. and I would end up going back to where i started only in debt. sorry this isnt turning into a question is it lol just my thoughts. basically do you follow your dreams or stay with reality?

Not that neither this...
Personally I did a IT degree at the Uni and I had to accept a low paid job afterwards as I did not have any real life experience, it took me 4 years and changed employer 3 times to get a well paid job, during I did IT qualifications and another 1 yr evening IT course at UCE to improve myself. And guess what, I am now thinking of moving to project managements and doing a MSc degree at the OU...
What a pathetic person….
I also know friends with no degrees who started with low paid IT jobs and they are stuck, it is not easy to move up.
If I was 21 I would set a target to do my own business if few years time, define the right way towards that and follow it.
Please do not ask me what could be the target as I have been thinking for 8 years about a potential target for myself and have not figure it out yet...

Earn the money to finance a degree. You can do night courses if you want and you won't be thousands in debt. You don't have to stick with IT forever, just until you find what you really want x I know uni can be fun, the whole experience of it, but I'd rather not be thousands in debt. When you get out of uni you will have barely any money but loads of new friends. I'd rather not go through that.

Well, I think one must BE in order to DO so one can HAVE. On the other hand one does need to be PERFECT to finish whatever one decided and started to do because one can always be better than the moment ago and so this would be an endless cycle. Could you learn while earning? This takes a lot of responsibilities and discipline and keeping north if you want to be good either learning either doing what provides earning. Now, answering your question: More important is learning so you can BE. To have is what media nowadays are promoting with adds, leading people to believe that they can HAVE or that they MUST HAVE - earning - without DOING. If you like animals... If you believe that it is what is in your heart... Man, GO FOR IT. There will always be an opportunity, if you have your ethics in. But remember: KEEP YOUR NORTH.

Don't get yourself stuck in a job because it was easy to get into and it pays well. Do what you want to do right from the start.
My parents wanted me to train to be a secretary (we're talking the '60's here)but I wanted to be a nurse, so that's what I did. I left home at 18 and went over 200 miles away to do my training. Altho' I had to give it up four years ago, I had a good life and I worked in several hospitals and have made wonderful friends. My life is not over of course, my once hobby of beaded jewellery is a new job. I design, make it, sell it and teach it to Adults. So I've had 2 career changes. Good Luck

It depends on you, what your good at, and what you aspire to be.

Ill use my family as an example.
My sister is 28, doing her doctorate in Genetics (dont ask me which bit of it) and she is in debt, left home 2 years ago, living in a tiny studio flat with her boyfriend.

And she couldnt be happier, she has a good prospect of maybe being a lecturer in the future

I left home at 17, worked, joined the police at 19, and i live in a lovely flat, with my missus, very well off, and very happy.
I've got a higher IQ than my sister, butim happier runnig around whaking people.

It all depends on what will make you happy.

Only you can answer this question.

Go for an "Earn while you Learn" course & you'll get the best of both worlds. Sure, you're going to get a basic wage, but it's better or equal to benefits, so you won't be scraping to get by.

My experience is learning first. Once you have learned you have got a skill that an employer will need and you will be in a higher paid, more secure work i.e. reaping the harvest.
