Outdoor plants?

What is a good inexpensive plant or tree that I can keep outside. I live in Santa Barbara, CA so it never really gets all that hot or cold but I'd like something I can leave outside that won't die.

where you live you should have quite a vartiety to pick from,pear tree grapevines etc.

How about a ficus?
