Our local village midwife isn't happy that we have chosen a hospital 20 miles away and not the hospital where she works.

She is unhelpful and has made it clear her local ladies going to her hospital in Crewe come first when booking appointments with the midwide at our local doctor.

Are they on commission with the babies they help deliver?

That midwife should respect your wishes and you are entitled to the same pre-natal care as everyone else, i would complain, that is not on, she should not treat you any differently to anybody else.

the chances r that the midwife doing the antenatal care will not be delivering ur baby anyway. i think there is a british standards agency u can complain 2 abt her booking every1 else b4 u, evn if u suld b 1st. also, ask the reception if there is another midwife avaiable that u can c instead of this one. i did that, and although my old one may give me snotty looks, im much happier with my new one n i get on wiv her so well!!

no she's just being a bit selfish, dont make such a big thing out of it because you might need her in the end, why not your local hospital anyway ???twenty miles is a long way to go to have a baby, i would rather be round the corner any day...

i would try to keep on the right side of her if possible as when your baby comes along you might not be able to make it to a hospital that is 20 miles away

That is terrible behaviour by someone who is supposed to be a proffessional!!

Can you afford to go private, and see a private midwife??

If not, then you are just going to have to be as polite as possible to her, and if you have any worries when you are pregnant and she will not help you, then go straight to the gp...

Good luck!

No I don't think its "commission", perhaps she feels happier about her patients going to her hospital as she knows what sort of treatment they will receive.
