What's it like? You just come home from work one day and say, "Hi, I'm home. Fine day at work. Oh, by the way, stopped at the courthouse today to file for divorce. What's for dinner?"
How did that go for you??

My wife told me she wanted out. I refinanced the house, and gave her a big fat check. She didn't file or move out. She was having the affair. After 30 days, I asked her if she had an appartment, and if she had filed. She said no. I went down and filed. Went home and told her when her last day in the house would be. 3 days later she was served. A month later she moved out. I would say at least give him a heads up as to what's going on.

First you say...'We need to talk'. That usually gives the indication that something is up. Then you just say 'I've filed for divorce because this isn't working anymore or hasn't been for a long time' and then give your reasons. There isn't an easy way to tell your spouse so all you can do is just say it. At least say it to their face because it's the right thing to do.

Met him at the door and said, "Things haven't been going well. I don't think this is going to work. Oh, by the way, I'd like you out in 2 weeks." He knew the divorce request was coming, but he didn't like that I gave him only 2 weeks to find a place. It took him a total of 3 weeks to get out.

I just realized we look like sisters!

I would pay a few bucks to have him served at work or somewhere away from the house. That way he is not there in your face when he finds out. If he is at all prone to violence Have him served by a police officer. Also, if he is at all prone to violence call your local police ahead of time and tell them you are having him served at X location and at X time so that they should be prepared.

Hopefully this is not the case. In order to save yourself a lot of grief take my advice and have him served somewhere else-by surprise.

Its not going to be pretty any way you do it.

Good luck and remember: The Only Way Out Is Through.

If you do it like you say you were never married in the first place...
No one knows your spouse better then you do....Think of it this way, you may be doing your spouse a favour...it's quite obvious the love and understanding you once had for each other is not there.

Wow, and no communication before???? You didn't agree that your relationship had problems that weren't fixable? No discussion? No counseling? OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH cold.

Then how 'bout"

"I'm leaving. You'll get the papers served to you this afternoon."

That is the best kick in the shorts I can come up with.

There is no easy way to tell your spouse that you filed for divorce. You just have to set down and tell them that you have and answer their questions honestly.(if they have any.)
