With a bottle, I mean? Like, when was he/she able to hold it on their own and drink the whole thing? (just wondering, not wanting mine to feed himself yet!)

Mine still doesn't. She's 7 1/2 months. I think she's probably capable of it, as she holds and plays with the bottle, pulling it in and out. She'll also hold a sippy cup of water, hold a spoon and feed herself (if I put food on the spoon), uses her fingers to put food in her mouth, etc.

I don't mind; I like giving her her bottle. And since she's not in a hurry to do it, all the better. It's the only time I get my little tornado to slow down during the day. :-)

I think she just prefers to let Mama do the work while she passes out on a breastmilk cocktail. :-)

Ummm well about 4 months I would let my breastfed baby play with a bottle of water while I did the dishes... until one day he drank a lot of it rather than just spitting it out (his favourite game). BTW too much water will make a baby very sick.

But I guess if my breastfed baby saw the bottle on the shelf and picked it up and knew what to do around 4 months most formula fed babies should to?

Really though feeding time is the only time I get to snuggle most days. (Still breastfeeding so he doesn't have a choice, he must stop and cuddle)

She started to want to feed herself at about three months..but couldnt do it so I would prop the bottle into her mouth. When I say she wanted to feed herself im serious. I would try and feed her and she would dart her head around left right and center and spit the bottle out and even smile at me and so Id put her down in her seat and prop the bottle in her mouth and shed eat the whole thing. at four months she could hold her own bottle and prefers to feed herself her bottle most of the time. Now that she is five months she can hold her own botttle and even put it in and out of her mouth at will and chuck it away when she is done with it.

The really cute thing she has been doing lately is seeing that I have the bottle in my hand or if its on the table near her she will reach out both of her hands to grab the bottle and open her mouth.

My 6 month old just took the bottle outta my hand and held it til he was done eating. I don't know if this is normal, but I sure was happy!
