Good question. The house I live in I've seen at least 3 different pictures of the area in the last year or so. The picture of the house I used to live in is definitely at least 3 years old, I can tell from the building work.

Another interesting thing I noticed, there is a military base near where I live, (in spain) which the Spanish authorities do not like to admit to. It's on top of a mountain and you can see if for miles in all directions. It can't be seen on Google earth as there is a very convenient cloud right over the top of it. I wonder how many other sensitive sites that happens to.

When Google Earth was started and the pictures were taken, the most detail was in commonly known places and states like New York, Washington DC, Florida etc. So they would be regularly updated, maybe every few weeks.

I live in London and the images there must be a month or two old now, but I do notice when they change! (I also use Google Maps - which use the same images by the way)

So in the UK, places like London, Birmingham, Scotland are updated, but places like parts of Devon, Essex and Kent are blurry.

I believe they are about 3 years old. I see where I live on there and around me there has been alot of development since those arial pics were taken. They should definately upgrade. But, since the earth is a massive planet they are upgrading on a continual basis.
