Russia has too much to lose by standing so staunchly beside Iran in such a scenario. If it did happen, then basically the entire world is doomed, considering the United States and Russia have the world's largest collection of nuclear powered toys.

I would have to say, "bring it biyatch". Truth is they won't. But I think Putin's comment were meant to send a message to Bush that he is stepping beyond his scope and enough is enough. That his actions are flaming the fires more than anything else.
If Bush wants to stop terrorists than inciting a full blown civil war in Iraq should be Mission Accomplished. If the Iraqi's are left in the middle of a bloody civil war then how the heck are they going to be attacking us? You can't bring democracy to a nation of people who don't want it. If they wanted it they would be fighting for it.
Get your troops in and strike your targets, then retreat leaving your enemy weak and unable to stop an insurgency. Then you let natural selection take its course.

Hold our ground. Russia backed the UN resolutions in regards to Iraq, the the only reason they voted against acting on those resolutions was because they were on Saddam's payroll. They won't interfere. Your right a very unlikely one.

I would back out of attacking Iran. Remember, Russia has the 2nd largest nuclear arsenal in the world and that is a more serious threat than anything Iran may or may not have. You don't want to start WW3 by attacking a 3rd rate power like Iran. (unless of course you are an ignorant fool like Bush).

They won't go that far. They will continue to supply Iran with arms. They are not motivated by anything but money, which they desperately need.
Russia, unlike the madiranians, are kept in check by MAD.
Sorry, this is as hypothetical as I care to go with this.

If I were a US president, I would back out of Iraq, wether Russia insists on it or not. I don't understand what you mean by saying "back out of there for Iranian interests".

the russian leaders say this, our american leaders say that..none of these assholes can speak for any of us. they say they do...i truly believe that most american people, and russian people, and irish, and so on, all feel the same . we just want to earn a living, love our families, and go on with life...lets all have a cold beer together..
the only fools that want to fight are the politicians..i say...lets put them on a reality show...celebrity/politician deathmatch...watch them beat their pitiful brains to a pulp. then we'll sit back, have a beer or two..and make friendly wagers on the the demise of the ...mouths
