Just like your other answers.....it's basically a vent...to let the air flow in so the ink will come out evenly when your write. If there wasn't a hole......the pen would be skipping on the ink. Best of luck to you.

Hmm....good question, I remember trying to stick things in them when I was a kid, but I haven't used a bic pen in like 20 years.

As you write the ink tube drains. Without the hole the tube would form a slight vacuum and the ink would no longer flow.

Actually, it's more to do with the changes of air pressure and how it affects the flow of ink.

It s to prevent you from sucking it into your throat if you chew on it. Without the hole, it would be more likely to be inhaled. THAT is the ONLY TRUE reason.
